I heard one being started up and it certainly was somewhat quiet.

What are the various stages in making a Chimaera exhaust more vocal?

What's this chap done to his 4.0?

It tells you on the title, ACT cherry bomb exhaust and a de cat. In my opinion this is the nicest sounding exhaust on these cars.
A cheaper alternative for more noise is to modify the centre box which is called sleeving around these parts, the sound is not to everyones taste though.

You need the main cat to pass mot, pre cats in the manifolds are not really needed.
I would leave the main cat alone personally, they can sound a bit tinny to my ears when its removed.
If you did want to decat best to find a spare to do or buy a Clive y as they are called but that will cost you.

I’d say that the main stages of making a TVR more vocal are anticipation, then excitement, followed by regret. hehe

Love your user name.....

25 years ago I had the misfortune to purchase a temperamental Cerbera that didn't even get me home from the dealership and later left me stranded on a wet dual carriageway...

Before the days of Swiss Toni the salesman told me that having a TVR is very much like having a mistress "to get the best out of her Sir you have to be prepared to spend a bit on her"....

At which point I sold it and enjoyed a BMW Z3M for a couple of years...

No idea why I'm thinking of re-entering the TVR world but my SLK55 R172 is leaving me cold.

They get into your blood a bit. But I’d certainly be a bit careful with getting the sound ‘right’.

The best sounding TVR V8 I’ve had was a with an ACT cherry bomb system. It was noticeabe but just a pleasant ‘more of the same’ setup.
I made a big mistake when younger, with a so called ‘sleeved’ exhaust on an earlier Chimaera. The technology consisted of shoving two lengths of scaffolding tube down the back boxes.

I tried to convince myself it sounded good. It didn’t

Now I drive a Chimaera 500 with an absolutely stock setup and I’m not going to alter that.

The lack of PAS may be an issue, if you haven't tried one without before. Excellent on the move, a 'mare when parking. Cat D repaired cars (if done correctly) are fine, I've had one, although not a TVR, but it will always reduce the sale value. frown

It's had the later door mirror opening buttons fitted (not used until 1997) so the place on the rear 1/4 where the big button was must have been filled in.

Looks very nice that, not keen on the wheels but that's easily sorted.

I can't resist sharing my setup and my one and only youtube video!

I have Clive F GT manifolds, Clive F decat Y piece, cherry bombs welded into the main box which is basically the same as the ACT setup mentioned. Above 2000rpm and part throttle it comes alive. Above 4000rpm it howls and barks on lift off / over run.

I am actually considering removing the mid box / cherry's to replace with a dual/dual silencer that is approximately half the size of the factory silencer so it has a bit more throat at low rpm. However the sound of my current setup is very tuneful and is a joy to drive.

Listen on something that has a bass speaker or it sounds crap.
