Got my eye on a potential Chim purchase at the moment. It’s on 17” wheels with 215 x 40 tyres on the front and 245 x 40 on the back. I’d welcome any thoughts/ advice as to the effect on ride/ safety aspect of this deviation from standard that this might create.

Nothing wrong with that. 225/40 r17 fronts are a challenge to obtain. Tyre type/condition,geo set up, shock condition will play more of a factor in ride qualilty .

You will no problems. I have 215/45 R17 front & 245/40 R17 rear. You have 215/40 front.
You can have 235/45 R17 rear. So you have a choice of tyre size & different makes at R17.
Go for it. driving

I slightly surprised you have no issue with 214/45 x 17" on the front. That's 19mm wider (over 3%) in diameter than the widest 225/50 x 15" OE fitted to 500 models with PAS.

My fronts of that size would touch the front corner of the outrigger on lock when the tyres were new. Do you have a higher offset than original to put the wheel / tyre further into the wheel arch? OE were 7" rims with 25mm ET on the front.

No bog standard 1999. No spacers etc. The MOT has the wheels from lock to lock & nothing touches.
Never had a problem on the road. No scuffs or rubs.
Might just be the age of the car if you have an older car it might have an issue.

It was about 10 years ago, a W reg car. I sold it in 2017. Not every TVR has the same exact dimensions. smile

My present Griff has 215/40 × 17 on the front.
