Hi all

Long shot I know, but does anyone have or know anyone who has a fully working speedo that they want to sell?

Regards

Ken

There have been at least two different styles used, which have you got/want?

There are 3 if you include the ones with LCD display from 2001 to the end on Griffs and Chimaeras. These can be bought new from Caerbont, with various coloured faces. I've also seen the LCD odometer display type with the warning light windows in them; they are in the rev counter on the last couple of years normally.

The commonest fault is the odometer stops working, and the parts (so the specialists say) are not available to repair them any more. Second hand (or even NOS) do pop up, but they seem to be rare, even at the specialist breakers. frown

Mine is the analogue white face, the speedo needle has just set itself to 60 mph from turning the ignition on, then it uses that as zero point onwards....would be nice to go everywhere at the speed shown .

Have you thought of getting yours repaired? In one of the recent Sprint Mags, there is an ad for 'JDO Instruments' in Keighley. 01535 603570 or 07872 071512

They come in various colour faces, but you profile doesn't state the age of the car. The early black bezel rimmed instruments were used until late 1994, the aluminium/ silver coloured bezels (Smiths) from then on, going to LCD odometer in 2001. The early ones are slightly smaller too, I think?

It was JDO who told me my 1999 one wasn't repairable due to lack of spares. frown

I ended up spending £400 at ETB Instruments to get both my rev counter and speedo replaced. My speedo was the early one with a failed LCD display, the battery was also knackered.

Ah, yes, I'd forgotten that the very early ones had failing internal batteries with LCD odometer. So there were 4 types at least over 10 yrs.

Ok thanks for that, mine is actually an off white colour it turns out, but I will check JDO out. My car is a 1998 4 litre.

Do they repair the original Caerbont gauges? Mine (off a 1997 Chimaera 450) has the stuck odometer issue.

Hello Ken,
I have some NOS of Caerbont Speedos (dial colour: cirrus-white) for offer. Both, MPH and KMH are available. They have the silver aluminium bezel and mechanical odometer.

Eckhard

Hi Eckhard

Thank you for that, when comparing to others mine is a cream colour which I believe is magnolia, so I’m back to square one sadly, but I appreciate your offer.

Kind regards

Ken

I can reset the early 'Mileometer gone blank' issue and restore the correct milage back onto the gauge, if it's the type with internal battery failure.
PM me to get the ball rolling!
