I have taken my idle stepper motor fully apart to clean it but do not know how far to screw in the plunger on reassembly. Do I screw it in all the way, half way or just a few threads?

When the ignition is turned off, the plunger is motored all the way, it's the clicking you can hear if you listen closely. It gives the ECU a datum to work from because it has no feedback loop as to the actual position of the plunger.

Of course, if it is in the wrong position it would have the wrong air mix, so if you turn the ignition on and off again, it should then be in the correct place.

Thank you but what does "To reassemble, wind the shaft back into the motor so far, " still trying to find out what so far is.

Can you remember how far you screwed it out?
I would be inclined to screw it half way and try it out.
