I went to take the Chim out for a ride and noticed this tube hanging in the engine. It looks like the rubber piece below it is shot, and I assume it was attached there. How do I fix it, and can I drive it with it not being connected...to take it to a shop.
Thanks for any thoughts and suggestions.

Its the vacuum advance pipe to the circular metal piece in the photo. It's on the side of the distributor. The car will run without it but not properly.

Looks like it was taped together.

Mine broke a while back. The rubber 90 deg bend perished. The original tube was a small diameter say 1mm.
In my box of bits i had some 4mm tubing that pushed onto the metal ends.
This post is a reminder to ask a question. The car runs fine & feels no different with the larger diameter pipe.
It appears to make no difference. But perhaps i could be enlightened. ears

I have a length of 4mm ID silicone hose.
When I swapped to full manifold vacuum, I first did it with 4mm ID rubber, but when I swapped back to ported for MOT, the rubber was stiff and brittle after just one year (2500 miles).
The silicone needs hose clips (the fuel type are best), otherwise it feels like it wants to slip off.

But to answer your question, it works fine.
The vacuum is only though the lower rev range. When you’ve got the throttle butterfly fully open, the vacuum drops anyway, and the dizzy uses its internal weights to provide some advance.
