May I re-open an old topic? It was last raised 5 years ago but doesn’t seem to get resolved.

The Vauxhall switch on the ignition (90052497) doesn’t have a contact for Aux, the first position, for the radio. It does have the notch as you turn the key, but no contact. They are about £10 on eBay.

In 2011 Brian Millar mentions he had done a modification and documented it on the Chimaera Pages, but I can’t find it and the links no longer work. I have emailed him but no reply so far.

There is also mention of removing a piece of plastic, but nothing obvious in the switch.

Looking on Vauxhall forums there are some complex electronic solutions using the Parking (P) terminal (which is live when the key is off) but even these are not quite the same.

There is a mention that later Vauxhalls have a working Aux position, and it is unlikely they changed the mechanical design, but I haven’t managed to confirm this. It might be a straight swap, but it also might need a different connector.

So the question is, does anyone have a definitive answer to this challenge or have access to the document Brian Millar produced?

Thanks
David

Yes ...XWORKS altered mine by removing the piece of plastic many years ago ... probably based on the information you can't find .. sorry smile
Sure that was a PH thread on the subject

Editted ... Thought so

Looks like when the TVR Car Club took over Chimaerapages , some of the info has been lost.. Unfortunately I can't find the instructions I printed off years ago . I vaguely remember the plastic insulated the contact position , with it removed a contact was made.

It should be fairly easy to see if you observe where the contacts should be when its in the Aux position.
Im guessing the silver plate rotates to make the contacts in the white plastic housing?

Gladly but I don't have a scanner!

I'll see if I can sort something at the library during the week.

Or I can post to you, take all the copies you like and post mine back?

I am pleased I re opened the topic as there is clearly interest. Photos of the pages would be great - like a spy movie. The one you did is easily read.
I cant see what bit of plastic might need to go, but hopefully all will be revealed soon.
Also happy to scan them if you want to post them.

Examining the switch more closely I think I can see what you have to modify, but I would rather check with the document first.

Spikep has posted some useful info on my post about dashboard wiring, which confirms you have to file a bit off.
