I have what looks like a small but but continuous drip from the bottom of the radiator, being a 93 car it could be the original radiator so I would welcome a bit of advice. It takes about 12 - 24 hrs to drain the system.

Is it feasible to try K Seal Radiator repair? If I go down the replacement route is it worth getting it re cored? Or is a new Rad the best option?

If I decide on a re core or that a new rad is the way to go where can should I be looking to , I live in south Warwickshire.

Thanks

Your car is telling you it wants a new/reconditioned radiator.

If you dont listen to what your car is saying it will punish you.

K Seal & the like are there to get you home, they can never offer a permanent repair.

What normally happens is people dump a bottle of this stuff in & it stops the leak, they mistakenly think it's fixed the problem and typically forget all about it.

Then one day, at the most inconvenient moment, the radiator will fail in a catastrophic way.

Listen to your car & get the radiator properly reconditioned ASAP.

Just Google "radiator reconditioning service" in your area, or use Yell.com.

There will be someone local to you.

Or these people have a good reputation, they offer a very reasonably priced collection & delivery service and are familiar with all TVR rads.

http://www.aaronradiator.co.uk/pages/Vintage_Car_R...

When I last spoke with them they offered me a new ally rad for not much more than a re-con job.

Tempting, but the truth is there's nothing wrong with a decent recon job on your existing rad.

You pays your money.

Got a couple of quotes for £180 - £220 for a re core etc does this sound about right?

A new rad looks about £320 ish!

Just realised looking on the web that I have no cowling around the fans! Does the cowling aid cooling? Or is it a hindrance, or irrelevant?

Recore gives you virtually a new rad.

I think, just the headers are retained...and everything is cleaned/flushed during process.
I would have thought the cowl improves efficiency of fan(s)...must raise velocity through the cowl?

Yep, google radiator repairs, and should find someone local.

Don't ignore it.
Took my rad out myself and cost £150 for a triple re-core at a radiator specialist (range rover part I think). Done within 1 week and back on the road. Car stays lovely and cool in even the warmest weather.
1 big word of advise though. If you take the rad out yourself you will notice that it is located into the bodywork by 2 metal locating pins on the bottom of the rad. I would recommend that you mark the exact distance between these holes on to a piece of string or something because if the new re-cored radiator is welded back together even 5mm wider the pins will not fit back in to the holes when you re-install.

I went for a recore and it is as good as new. The above advice is critical, your recore man needs to know the rad must be the exact same size when it comes back otherwise it just won't fit

I tired of the heavy Range Rover rad and cracking alloy ones and am modifying this one to fit:

If your going that after-market BMW route dont buy cheap Nissens, Valeo, Behr is what your after , its a known amongst Beemer owners , good luck watching this , you will need to sort the hose stubs as they are a straight clip style fitting , a solution like this, but only an example hope it helps

How close a fit is this and what modifications are needed?
