Hi all,
I am trying to connect my laptop with Rovergauge software to my 1994 4.3 Chimaera.
I bought the special connecting cable with the usb (for the laptop)on one side, and the 3 pin special connector (for the Cux14)on the other side.
So today was the day, I was going to look into the data of my car.
But when I wanted to connect, it turned out that I do not have a white corresponding connector on my wiring loom!
The only thing I found was a black 4 pin connector, which appears to be a C380 connector according to the Steve Heath Ecumate document.

So I tried to make a connection between my white 3 pin (female) connector and 3 of the female pins on the black C380 connector, by inserting pins.
(Picture makes it look like there are only 2 pins connected, but there really are 3)
A long shot, and it missed gloriously:
I can select "connect" on Rovergauge, but there is no data visible, so it does not really connect.

Anybody any idea how to get it working? Is there a special trick to it? Am I the first/only one with this problem?
Greetings from The Netherlands!

The usb end of the lead should have a red and green led lit up this will show transmitting data and receiving data if not both lit then no connection is made.

I think you are confusing the ECUmate fault code reader instructions with the Rovergauge connector, they use different connectors.
You need to use the white connector as described in the rovergauge document. It's possible you don't have one, but I think that is rare, if yours is LHD that may be a factor.

I think this is the connector you should be linking to

The white data connector you need to connect to is confusing you because it already has the opposite part connected to it with one black wire coming out and round into the other half. This wire is earthing the data pin so the ECU does not see any stray interference.
Simply unplug this and plug your RoverGauge lead in.

Indeed, that was the one I was looking for, thanks!
I had not expected it to be in use already. The cable fits nicely.

But at the moment it has not helped me further, as I do not see any data on the Rovergauge with the cable connected.
I know I can choose from Com1 and Com3 on Options, but trying al 4 ports on my laptop in both Com1 and Com 3 has not made any difference (engine running at idle)_.
I feel that I am getting close, but not there yet..
So if anybody knows where I am making the Obvious mistake, please let me know!
thanks again.

The provided instructions were pretty spot on with mine.
Ask a stupid question but are you hitting the connect tab top left of rovergauge screen?

I used to use this connection and found the COM designation very hit and miss. Not least because I was running the software on Windows run on a Mac.
In my experience, about 15 minutes after any sane person would have given up, it suddenly decided to work. I also seem to remember that it needed the ignition on, and it needed me to restart the computer more than once.

Now on Emerald. Never have any running problems, so don't bother to connect up. And Jools is only 40 miles away.

Note to all after-market ECU would-be adopters - make sure you live near your mapper.
Move house if you have to.

Well, that did not take long to find the problem.
I was running Rovergauge on an old laptop with Windows XP. I thought that the software drivers were installed, but they weren't, as XP is no longer supported. So it could not identify the cable as a serial port.
Reinstalled in on a more modern laptop, drivers were accepted and now the cable is Com4. Filled out the blank in Rovergauge with "COM" 4 and presto, it is working!
Thanks all for suggestions and help!

So for future reference:
- the white plug is often already in use, just remove the other half to insert the cable
- run Rovergauge on at least Windows 7 , if the cable is not directly recognised by your computer as a COM (so you need software drivers for that , that need at least windows 7)

And I do not want to remap anything, just wanted to know if various parts of the system behave as they should.
Quick conclusion is that they do not, with idle position at 11% and lambda short term at 100% solid. Long term in the middle, or perhaps no response.
Will use the search function of this very knowledgable forum first.

folks need some help with Rover Gauge.
Just bought the cable and connected to an old Android tablet.

When I connect it to my Chimera, I can see red light polling. I turn the ignition over but not cranking, I can see red and green polling.
But no data is appearing on the Tablet, other than time. Should I get basic data like battery charge, temp sensor etc ?

My car is not cranking (fuel pump is priming ) and I have a new battery, coil and amplifier.

Any advice, appreciated

I can't remember what RS-RV8 looked like when I first downloaded it but I'm assuming that you have lots of random dials on the display but they're all showing no data?

Mine shows all of the data with just the ignition on, car not running. First thing I do to see if it's operating correctly is to press the throttle and watch the throttle position sensor dial. If none of the gauges are showing anything I'd start with the standard IT help desk of turning the phone off and on again

It's not perfect on Android, occasionally it freezes or takes a while to connect but I put that down to the fact that I'm running it on an old phone, 99% of the time it runs fine and is more than good enough for keeping an eye on things and fault diagnosis.

The fact both lights are flashing says the request data is being sent to the ECU and data being returned but for whatever reason it's not being displayed. t is possible if the cable is not programmed correctly the return signal is not inverted so RG cant interperate it. If it's used on a PC then you can use the program putty to test it, but I've not tried the equivalent on Android.
