Hi, bit of a strange one but unfortunately following a car accident I have had a replacement right hip. This is quite recent but thinking ahead (sitting around gives you lots of thinking time) my thoughts are will I be able to get back into my car ok? I fully appreciate it is early days and I am talking for next year but has anyone had a hip replaced and still manage to get in and out of the car? I am only 50yrs so certainly not old but reading all the stuff online you are not meant to move hip past certain limit as risk of popping out is quite high and everyone knows getting into and out of a chimaera is not the easiest of things when fully fit. The reason I need to know now is that insurance runs out during winter months and do not really want to be insuring a car I cannot drive. I really would like actual people who have had op to give definitive answer if possible rather than people just saying "you should be fine". Any info would be gratefully recieved

My wife had a hip replacement a few years and is quite happy getting in and out of my TVR's and indeed driving them.

The secret is to follow the advice given to the letter, i.e. do all the exercises religiously and just as importantly, avoid doing anything they tell you not to do!. If you give the muscles the correct time to heal you won't notice the difference, so if you could get in and out before, you will again. Good luck!

It will be no problem whatsoever for you but you will need to give it a little time and as said earlier do what they tell you (I think I drove my Chim after 3 months). But walk as much as you feel capable of doing - I was told I couldn't overdo it. Do your exercises and also start doing little step ups. Don't hang on to the crutches too long. Had the left hip done almost 6 years ago,,, and now 70... Good luck and enjoy!

It's been 2 years for me, never given it any thought and have just continued to get in and out of the car as always. You will have to be patient though, although your scars will heal within 3 months, the tissues/muscles within can take up to 12 months to heal. As others have said, make sure you follow your instructions completing the exercises, you'll be glad you did. BTW, I had mine replaced at 51.

I have a 78 year old neighbour who had a new hip a few months ago,, he’s busier than ever knocking fences and sheds up. Drives no problems.

Guy local to me says he can do more now since the op than he could before due to the pain he was in then.

I find it much easier getting into the Griff with the roof off, much less bending involved, you chimaera owners should try it sometimes biggrin
