So a trip up to Saffron Walden on Sunday saw me coming off the M11 on the way back with steam pouring out of the bonnet and a split down one side of the radiator.

So a new radiator is needed in the New Year.

Any recommendations for aluminium ones?

Anybody got one of these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-TVR-Chimaera-Griffi...

It's a 1994 500 by the way. smile

Haven't had too much luck with it in recent weeks. frown

Cheers.

That looks like the Aaron Radiators unit which ironically are not far from your Ebay sellers address , I have one as do a few others inc Phazed on this forum no problems and much lighter , Aaron was doing a special rate few years back for PH'ers when I got mine about 260 IIRC

Bit of a useless picture but I got mine from Powers about 7 years ago. About £300 so I was happy enough knowing it’s the right one.
I can’t remember who makes this but it may well be Aaron. I’d deal direct if possible if I wasn’t buying through a recognised Tvr centre.

Original copper radiators are good for majority of our cars, so I was advised by Central TVR when mine had a leak recently and they recommended taking it to their repairers who said it didn't need a recore.

Take it to whoever your local TVR peeps suggest and ask them to have a look at its general condition and if they suggest a recore or just repair then go with it.

It must've been about five years ago that I bought my aluminium radiator from Aaron radiators.

It hasn't missed a beat since and still looks as good as new.

The address for that company on eBay seems to be a residential house. For all I know it might be the owner of Arran radiators selling mail order from home address.

I just replaced my aluminium radiator after it started to leak this November.
Used these guys in Notts..approx £450 all in.
www.performanceradiators.co.uk. Give them a call. Darren was who I spoke to.

They were really helpful. 7 day turnaround for a bespoke rad copied from mine either in ally or copper/ brass ( non standard rad due to LS engine). Opted for copper rather than aluminium as suspect body/ chassis vibrations problem had cracked the aluminium one. ( been discussed in previous threads with mixed opinions )
They are happy to do in aluminium of course,

The new one looks fine and seems to work well. No leaks and cooling fine although only tried running it in the garage few times and not open road yet . Black paint job could be a bit neater and mounting holes needed a bit of filing to fit exactly but otherwise all good. Not much weight difference really. Important to change the mounting bushes front and bottom as mine were stuffed.
Hope this helps.

The Copper/Brass Radiators in my Griffith used to last about 3 years until I think it was Adrian Venn suggested ensuring the mounting bolts have cushioned washers to allow a fair bit of flex. Since then the current re-cored rad has been in since 2010 and seems fine. The Rad specialist did suggest that Cu/Brass rads can stand flexing rather more than aluminium ones but if weight is an issue then Ali gives a decent saving.

Yup totally agree. Need to apply hifi turntable vibration isolation mount tactics !..
