knocking in the rear
Discussion
i read a post recently where someone had a knocking in the rear. I too have had this issue for the last six years or so. after checking everything repeatedly over the years i decided it must be the chassis bolts under the fuel tank. today i decided to have a look. i ran the tank down to about 1/4 then removed the mounting strap bolts and the filler neck which allowed me to open up a gap between the tank and the bulkhead and have a look in there. to my delight i found that one of the body to chassis bolts had been rubbing on the tank and worn an appreciable mark in the tank! [the factory dent in the tank was too low] my solution was to lay a thick layer of felt under the tank and up the bulkhead. so i put it all back together and went for a drive and guess what?? the noise was still there! so i thought... the noise is right behind my head? so i reached back and put my hand on the drivers side hood stay bar which i could feel moving as the noise occurred? i unlocked it [by pulling it over centre] as i was driving and guess what... the noise stopped! not sure what the permanent fix will be but happy to have found it and feeling a little silly for not trying this years ago? so anyway if you have this problem try this simple test and it my be the problem. cheers to all!
