Evening all,

This forum seems to have changed layout since I was last on. Feel a bit lost if I'm honest. (edit: it hasn't it just defaults to some different layout)

Car failed its mot on headlight adjustment last week and it was indeed rather gash so decided to take it to bits. I can't seem to grasp how the reflector is supposed to sit in the opening with the adjustment fasteners. I've done a quick video to better describe what I'm going on about.

see youtube vid here

Please excuse the northerness...

I tried a good old search but everyone's either going on about lupo lights, mk3 conversion or what super duper LEDs they've put on.

Any help would be appreciated. I think ill be getting the dremel out at this rate.

Cheers,

Morris.

i had the same problem with my Chimaera. To make the headlight stay still you have to insert your forearm into the air intake in the front of the car and put your hand behind the 3 points to adjust the angle of the headlight.
you will find fly nuts and you will have to tighten them a lot until you see the headlight move inwards and stay still.
Once you done this you can use the three registers to adjust the light beam.

I hope I was clear ( I'm Italian and I'm not able to write better than this )
Cheers

Just now have I realized one thing.
My chimaera has no opening in the wheel arch to access at the back of the headlight. That's why I told you to pass by the front space behind the front license plate.
If your Chimaera has the access in the wheel arch to the headlight then you just have to tighten the fly nuts from there.

Yea thanks. I understand how to get to the wing nuts and all that. I'm just unsure how far back the reflector is supposed to sit relative to the lens seat. It feels like when the reflector is back to the point it wouldn't interfere with the lens it pretty much maxed out on its adjustment. The MOT chap is saying that its just way to high. And after disassembling I cant see how it can be tilted any lower.

On the off chance. Could it be that I'm running 225x45 r16s on all four corners? its a fair bit different to stock and I'm wondering if that would affect it so much over the length of the car to put the lights beyond adjustment. I'm tempted to go 225x50 r16s on the rear and maybe finding some stock 15s for the front (car had 17s on when I purchased it).

To make it sit better further back you could cut some length off the springs to stop them binding up when the unit is further back.

The chassis just behind the front wheels should be 10 - 13 mm lower than the chassis just infront of the rear wheels, giving the body a slight nose down stance. So if you have the same wheels and tyres front and back the car may be level and thus not enough adjustment to compensate.

Cheers. I'll go with a combination. The springs I took off were already cut down so I'll put them back on. The ride height at the points suggested are just over 130 front and just under 140 back so there's some adjustment to be had there.

nice one.
