Hi All

Probably been done elsewhere but cannot find it ... I have a bad leak in the driver foot well after leaving the car outside over the last week while I am doing a clutch on the family car.

So fitted a brand new door seal (the one that goes over the windscreen) and its still there. It looks like it's coming in via the vertical route by the door hinge then onto the carpets at the side at the bottom and then into the foot well?

So I recall somewhere that cutting a V into the seal stops water crossing from the seal into the car, does anyone either know how to cure this or whether my memory re the V cuts is real and if so where to do it?

TIA

Is it the clutch fluid filler that sits under the bonnet on that side? (Can't remember). I know that the broken seal on that kiddy caused footwell puddles on one of mine in the past.

When you fitted the new door seal did you do the water channel as per photo ? There’s two one at back and one near front the new seal does not come with it done and you have to create it yourself else it will let water into the footwell , when I did mine I cut a slit in the bottom pressed some glue into it and used a G clamp to form the indentation

Good advice above though I resealed all under bonnet area like brake res and wiper arm inlets etc as well as boot hinges (all the places your meant to seal)

How/when did you discover the leak?
When you opened the door, or when you set off driving it?

Discovered it after 3 days out in the rain and after opening the door so not movement related I think. It was 1/4” deep after 2 days rain!

Not the same as mine then!
Mine soaks my lower legs when I turn the first two corners.
Cured by using a Leven half cover (it lives outside)

I had one once that was water running down the windscreen and somehow getting through the bottom screen seal and dripping on my feet. Do the watering can test everywhere and remember that it can take a while for the water to make its route to the floor, it was a good 20 seconds after pouring it on the windscreen that I was getting drips inside the car and took ages to figure out rolleyes

A couple of well placed drain holes in the floor never hurt anyone either.

That’s exactly what mine used to do.
I had Central TVR fit a new windscreen and that was the end of those leaks.
I don’t know if they found leaks and sealed them or a new bead of mastic for the new screen solved it.

It’s never leaked since, well not there anyway biggrin

I have got to crack open a new tube of Stickyflex for another little job, so i will have a go at inserting a bead in the windscreen rubber driver's side.
Thanks Alun.

PS, guaranteed as soon as i do get around to that I will get a crack in the glass and will need a new screen - a bit like you only get un-mendable punctures when your tyres are less than three months old

The windscreen was a bargain as it was so pitted I could hardly see through it, I did then get a stone chip which was the final straw. My insurance company paid for it and it never made much difference if any to my insurance premium. it was about 1k fitted so not cheap but oddly makes the car feel very new and I can actually see through it biggrin
