Unknown electrical component fell off, now Chim wont start?
Discussion
Whilst fixing and upgrading the wires feeding the drivers side door mirror, window, cig lighter I have managed to accidental disconnect this little item.
It was fixed to a pair of really thin wires (one black one red) wrapped around the wiring loom feeding through the to the door.
I am guessing this is non standard and possibly its part of my Sigma S30 alarm/immobiliser system.
Anyone recognise what it is and what it does ?

From what was left of the red and black wires (fragments of wire sticking up from the circuit board) I made my best guess and soldered them back on but car wont start, so I cut it off again and still car wont start. When I switch the ignition on the pump does prime, engine turns over perfectly but no spark at all.

The only manual I can find for the sigma doesn't show that part.. https://manualzz.com/doc/23463839/sigma-s30
If it was just a sensor I would expect it to just be activating the alarm, wouldn't stop you disarming it and starting the car. It's also weird that it has just disabled spark when it is located near to the driver's door.
Think you're going to have to trace those wires and report back, sorry

Good point, I have the installation manual and can't see anything exactly like that on there either. If it was just a sensor I would expect it to just be activating the alarm, wouldn't stop you disarming it and starting the car. Tracing is quite easy, one wire is solder spliced into the loom by the door the other is spliced into one of the plugs in same area. Will get details on which wires.
Nice detective work by everyone there.
Thanks for your support guys, much appreciated

Well, I'm going to take a punt at this thing isn't the reason for your lack of spark. Anything else that you've been near? I can't think of much inside the car that will kill just spark, would do ignition or ECU/fuel and they're still working?
Yes agreed, guess I need to go look else where now. Ran the car last week to turn it round in the garage then have only worked on the drivers door electrics so need to go back to basics. Thanks for your support guys, much appreciated

If it was my car, second test would be to ensure that the owner isn't having a senior moment
(You might laugh scornfully, but having posted this on my own computer, the one on the right, I scrolled the mouse across to the left hand - office - computer screen to try to read an incoming email. Needless to say, the mouse wouldn't jump from computer to computer)

First test has to be is there 12v at the coil with ignition on.

Give that man a coconut..............that's what I did first thing this morning..........BUT I had 12 volts so immediate thoughts were "Now What" then 10 seconds later the wire fell out of the spade connector, so there was power "at" the coil but not "on" the coil.Steve
Quick bit of soldering (to all coil connections) and she fired first crank.
Cruel coincidence there making me think I'd buggered the alarm system. New buzzer ordered anyway I'll tidy that mess up when it arrives.

I can sympathise with that had plenty of similar instances

Like the time back in 1970......testing a spark plug on an old Champion tester machine, having cranked the voltage to about 12000 volts the plug would not spark so progressively cranked it to 35000 volts still nothing, then realised I hadn't put the lead on the plug, so grabbed the lead .......that was a mistake I can tell you.....still remember it now

Well actually, it might not have been such a senior moment - you can have this functionality. It's called Logitech Flow, and they say you can even copy files and pictures etc. from one computer to the other using one mouse with the Flow software. I haven't tried it yet myself, but you can read about it here: www.logitech.com/en-gb/product/options/page/flow-m...

Looks quite handy. I think it only works with certain products (mice) eg MX Master 3, you'd need to check if you want to get Flow.
I have no connection with Logitech except as a user of some of their products.
