Hi All,
I’m still on the lookout for a local replacement engine. Just spotted this at the local wreckers - 2005 RR Sport Supercharged. It is an auto & I’m presuming a 4.6? I have attached photos of the engine bay plus VIN plate. Does anyone have any idea whether this will swap in to my 94 Chim 4.0?
Cheers.

That is a 4.2 Supercharged unit. It is not a Rover V8, it's much later and from Jaguar.

No, it won't fit. Not without a lot of work.

Why are you looking for another engine?

...absolutely. Such a shame they put that wheezy Jag engine in a Range Rover. tongue out

In all seriousness though, the TVR has a higher red-line than my Jag XKR. (6k vs 6250)

Isn't there some place in Wales that does rebuild them fairly cheap on a swap?

The RV8 stopped with the P38 Rangie, so 2001/2 . Later Rangies had BMW V8s for a few years, then the Jaguar ones.

Don't know why I think they used Ford engines after BMW

I have posted previously re my engine’s woes. A refresh would be good and a straight swap with a locally sourced unit even better.
I just got a little excited with the thought of an easy swap with the supercharger added on - cut down to size as usual by those who really “know!!”
The Chimaera is a nice cruiser but if I’m really honest I really miss the event that the 4.5 Cerbera was each time I got in and drove it. Unfortunately, they are now out of reach for me here in Aus. Cerbera prices seem to be firming in the UK too which is about time really.

There have been a few posts over the years from owners who have transplanted LS series engines.
I'm no expert so don't know if this is a relatively easy swap, but if so it's another option to look for.

Well, Dear Boy, 'Jagwaaah' sounds so much better at the golf club or the races than 'Ford' (don't mention Ford owning Jag and the engine factory,) and soooo, soooo much better than the later Tata engine biggrinbiggrin

Most RV8 engined cars will probably disappoint next to a Cerbera in all honesty, unless you go big capacity or FI.
No older rangies out there you could pull a 4.6 from?

Surely the LS engine is the only engine to swap in to a TVR? Lots done before.

Regarding putting an LS engine into a chim. Plenty have been done in the past to various degrees of tune.

It depends what you want. If you just want a more reliable power that fits and suits the car then a 4.6 engine would be best. It gives the car a good balanced feel. Plenty of power, can be safely tuned to about 320 BHP and enough torque to put a smile on your face while overtaking. The car feels just right with this set up.

I have only driven one griff with an LS engine which was in the region of 500+ BHP with huge amounts of torque from very low revs. You have to be very careful with this set up in such a light car. It will light up the rear tyres so easily in the dry and alarmingly fast in the wet. Yes, power and acceleration feel absolutely awesome but needs to be kept reigned in at all times.

I test drove that car when it was up for sale seriously considering buying it but decided that my 5.5 RV8 was a far nicer drive with 90% of the performance and felt a far more balanced and enjoyable car to drive.

Just my tuppence worth.

It’s a bit like owning a McLaren but never leaving the city with such powerful engines installed.
You can never really get all the power down unless your on a runway already reaching 150 mph which in a Tvr without full roll cage is questionable intelligence. lol

The sweet spot is probably as Peter says around 320 bhp and with good compression, decent ECU so a good 350 ft of torque and a really useable reliable car which can be nailed to give max acceleration without wheel spin that just slows you down and risks catastrophe on a regular basis.

Other than because it seems awesome I don’t think such installs are any better than a really nice sorted 450/500 in the scheme of things.

Most the time the Mini’s beat beefed up Capri because they can get the power down much earlier being my theory wink
