I have an early 93 Chim 400 and have some questions on the wiring on the back of the alternator.

Firstly, what is the fuse circled in red in the middle of the picture? Is this an early version of the 100amp fuse? It doesn't seem to go anywhere, the ends of the wiring are on the left of the picture also circled in red.

Secondly, I have a connection floating in space, circled in blue. There's no obvious place to plug this in. The other end is mounted at the bottom of the alternator and has a black box on the terminal. There's a second version of this that IS plugged in, circled in green. Does anyone know what either of these are for?

Thanks in advance.

(Yes, my engine is dirty)

The fuse holder is for blade type fuses and looks like someone has used it to supply something else in the past. Should be disconnected if not in use.
The item circled in blue is a spade connector, hard to say what is was used for to be honest.
Any wires floating around with nothing connected to the other end are best disconnected.

I think you will find more dead end wires because the loom was from a Rover??

Can't help with the other Q's

Early Griff's didn't have an 100 amp fuse and if early Chim's did then my '95 Chim' didn't because the wiring was extensively modified, I didn't do it so can't help.

On my preserp Griff [and a couple of other preserps I have looked at] there is a spade connector not connected on the back of the alternator. This seems to be normal.

Thanks all, sounds like this is "normal" (as far as TVRs go). The car runs fine so I'm more curious than anything, just didn't want to start taking things off indiscriminately.

Small black box ? Something like this ?

If yes

Radio interference suppressor

Tip.

Fit a red cover over the alternator terminal that's easy to short when adjusting the belt.

Yes, exactly! If the other end isn’t connected I presume it’s not doing anything..? Should I try to connect it to a ground?

The suppressor bracket should be bolted to an earth point and its cable connected to the alternator battery positive main supply

You may find that the circled green termination point is a positive that's internally linked to the main battery positive

Remove all suppressors If your stereo isn't producing alternator noise through the speakers when they're not connected

There are possibly 2 suppressors mounted to the alternator, one being an old one that was never removed and one that's now connected

Yes the other ends of the circled blue and green terminals both have black suppressors attached, although obviously only one is fully connected.

I’ll keep an eye/ear on noise when I install my new stereo (old one was original to the car so it had to go).

Thanks
