I’ve found a 3rd earth strap in my box of bits to be reinstalled after my Powers 4.5BV engine rebuild but can’t remember where it goes?

Ive installed the battery to N/S engine mount and the O/S outrigger to engine mount and have a vague memory (from December) that there was a 3rd one at the back of the engine? Pics appreciated if anyone has one 👍

It’s a 1992 Griff BTW

Pic for attention!

Providing the battery is earthed to the chassis and the engine or gearbox has an earth lead to the chassis that is all you need.

The bloke above knows his stuff.
This is the Earth to rear of n/s head when fitted to a Chim for reference.

I think that’s the one I’ve found in my box of bits. Can’t see where it attaches at each end. Is it head to block, head to bellhousing or block to bellhousing?

Now that’s a very good question!

When removing my body I had to disconnect it from the engine as above.
I don’t remember undoing it the other end so I think it goes through bulkhead and towards battery inside the car but someone who works on these cars more exclusively better explain.

Why would you earth head to block, head to bellhousing or block to bellhousing?

Three great great big lumps of metal all bolted together with oodles of 'conductivity' between them!

The battery earths at the NS tunnel top to the chassis.
Engine earth goes from the diagonal outrigger strut to the engine. seen it in a number of places, starter motor, engine mount, front of timing cover.

There are other earth wires at the timing cover. Mainly ECU earths

There are other earth wires at the rear of the NS cylinder head. mainly the Lambda earths.

I've only rarely seen additional engine earths probably fitted in the mistaken belief it would help hot start issues.

I didn't see my comment as contempt, but if that's how you want to take carry on smile
