I know this has been covered many times, and I've contributed to several threads about them. But I've searched a heck of a lot and can't find why the VIN of a Chimaera would start SDLBA01RXXB00******? Could it be a reimported model?

It's on a car I'm considering. It's a 1999 car, supposedly, which the X suggests. UK models started SDLCC normally I thought. scratchchin

A de-coder that actually works! Every other I've tried with various cars returns gibberish usually.

Results need to be translated from Germany but this site suggests model 'BA' is indeed a Chimaera. scratchchin

Mine is SDLBA01Rxxxxxxxx, a 98 UK car so seems right to me.

Thanks for the confirmation. smile They must have changed the coding of the model type about the time of the facelifts then, from 'CC' to 'BA.'

That's a brilliant resource, great find!

I now know that my car was the 1st Chimaera off the production line in 1995 - though the chassis date says December...!
