Chimaera headlights
Discussion
Hi my 98 chimaera has filthy headlights. The inside of the unit is filled with debris, spiders webs etc. on removing the wheel arch access panel I discovered there are no caps/boots. It’s all exposed. I am certain there should be be some form of boot on the back.
Can anyone point me in the right direction of where to source the right component please? I have seen the one on offer from racetech but it just doesn’t look quite right to me. I’d like to protect the entire rear of the unit not just the bulb holder.
Thanks.

Never fitted with boots as standard that I’m aware of but your access panel should have a bead of silicone around it when fitted which stops road crud getting in there.
It’s a good idea while you’re there to grease the 3 wing nut fine threaded bolts that adjust the lense position as they often rust up over time.
You can only get access to behind the glass by removing it. You could probably get a small hose attached to a Hoover in by removing the bulb and suck the stuff out.

That's bonkers.
Though with the mk2 nose, it might be possible for stuff to blow up the side of the radiator into the light fitments - I don't know though.
You might find also that the reflectors have lost their chrome shine, so it's worth paying attention to how orange/brown they look - you can see through the lens at the front, no need to dismantle anything. It might be time for a refurb or change. It's a fairly well documented thing, I believe you can get Porsche replacements that fit, or go further and change the whole lot for LED sealed units. Clearly there's a difference in cost.

If your hatch is missing I have seen people instal watertight twist inspection hatches like this, makes changing bulbs ect in the future easier.

a guy who has posted a few things he's done on his Chim.
this is the boat hatch mod for the front light access.
when my bulbs go, I'll be doing this, I already have the hatches in the loft...
