Took some straight line measures and sure will fit under arch,all be it i may have to slightly space out from the inside?

Wheel width is the first issue here - you will need minimum 8.5J, ideally 9J or 9.5J wheels. Do you have these?
Second issue is catching, as Daz says. 235 Toyo 888s caught on my car until I raised the ride height, and when I tried to lend them to another Chim owner at a track day, he laid enough smoke to hide him from advancing BMW/Merc/Audi/Porsche owners. We ended up having to swap all 8 wheels over between our cars. It's not just how they fit with the car standing still, there needs to be enough space to handle cornering, compression over bumps etc.
Third issue is why bother? Why spend money just to give yourself problems? Phazed had done the wide wheels thing on his monster Chim (390 BHP), but he has trimmed the wheel arches to accommodate them and the main joy in his motoring life is track days and sprint days.
Fourth issue is what do you hope to gain? I am not convinced you will get any more grip, or better handling. These cars are light weight and the tyres need to bite through the grease on the roads. TVR specced 205 front and 225 as the rear width. I have done a load of track days on 215 all round and been very happy with the handling. It was no better with 235 rears.

And it explains why you want to do it, and that you already have the wheels.
You can achieve a lot of what you are trying to do by raising your ride height a tad.
Not masses, maybe just half an inch to an inch. It's how I got my 235 Toyo 888s to fit without rubbing.
And the rest can be achieved with a little shaving of the car's armpits.
If you're in any doubt as to method, Monsieur Phazed may well be willing to show off his two post lift and help you with it - he's a daycent fella.

17x9" on the rears shod with 255/40/17 R1Rs.
As QBee stated, ride height needs to be correct.
When I had those Image wheels on my 4.6 Chim, I had 255 x 40 x 17 on the rear, set at the correct ride height and did not have much of a problem on the road.
The first track day I did at Brands Hatch, I had smoke pouring off the wheel arches due to far higher cornering speeds.

I have just fitted a pair of 225/45 17 Toyo R1Rs on my car, front wheels. Wider than I would have chosen, due to poor choice of sizes.
Grrrr. Catching on full lock, back of the headlight inspection panel, nowhere else. So I will try half an inch all around onto the ride height, see if I can stop it.

It's only on full lock, and then only scuffing gently, so I will just have to avoid supermarket car parks until they have worn down a tad..

I have exact same tyres,only rubs on full lock,on inspection on mates ramp,i need to add 3mm spacer and problem solved

Going to find some worn tyres and try 255 40 17 and 265 40 17 then take the plunge.....seems every Chim is different due to hand build 17x9" on the rears shod with 255/40/17 R1Rs.

Don`t forget the outriggers ,jack the near side up high as possible ,255`s caught the outrigger..
I also tried 215/45/17 on the front ,they cause me problems at Cadwell. They caught on compression .
I would go for 255`s for the rears but don`t make a balls up like me
