Dumbo question are the Dizzy, HT leads and Serp Belt all just simple Rover V8 items?

What I mean is if i just go into GSF and ask for the bits based on a RangeRover 4.0 V8 they should be the same?

Personally, I read the threads on here about the use of various 'racing' HT leads and just bought a set for the Range Rover V8 Classic. Fit well with a positive click. Definite improvement since some of mine were 17 years old I think!

The Serpentine belt I bought had Land Rover, BMW 1 and 3 series written on it (?). They are defined purely by their length so fit many cars. Different length required of course if you have A/C or a non-standard tensioner (fitted by a few).

Distributor caps are variable, I've read about Lucas 'copies' that don't perform well.

Thanks for that, to be honest I would go for a genuine Lucas Dizzy anyhow.

I will pop down to my GSF at the weekend and see whats what.

Have a look at the top of the Griff forum at the parts wiki and check your belt length as it depends on PAS or AC or not - doubt a motor factors will have much idea tbh, something like a 3.9 RR Classic would be a close match on their computer for leads. Beware crap parts - rotor arm in particular - cause more problems than they solve!

Lucas is not Lucas anymore. It's just a name that was sold to the highest bidder. Beware.

Noted....wasnt going to go in saying its a TVR and that will pull a blank look smile I might just take the belt off and go in with it. TBH my local GSF in Farnham are quite good plus I have a trade account with them wink

I would be very careful about replacing anything in/on the distributor if you don't have to.
When a new thread starts with " I have got a misfire I can't find/the car suddenly won't start", my first question is usually "what have you changed recently?".
The biggest culprits are extenders, distributor parts and dodgy plug leads.....in that order.
Also bear in mind that between your plug leads, extenders and plugs, you need at least one item that is resistive.

As said above the belt is standard Rover V8.
I took my old one to Rimmers when replacing the tensioner last month, and they said both came off a Discovery 2 3.9 petrol.

Don't assume that parts will be fine because of where you bought them.
My TVR expert bought me a new set of extenders last year, from the most unimpeachable source.
6 months later 6 had failed. And I am far from the only one to suffer that.
I now have the expensive ceramic capped leads that Racetech sell. Spot on (so far!)
Bear in mind that misfires waste time, money and fuel when trying to cut corners.

Confidence at last !

Did yours have the numbers mismatched to lead length ?

No idea - they were fitted by Mat Smith when he installed my rebuilt engine. The leads are all numbered with little yellow tags
