If you scroll down to T (or lot 73 if it is in lot order) here:

You'll see a 1993 Chimaera went for £6400 at auction at Brightwells today. Looks OK in pictures but I went to see it on a viewing day.
It does start and drive and has an MoT but the car seems to have been sprayed with rattle cans, the door mirror mounting holes have been badly filled in and those fixed mirrors screwed on. The interior is shocking. Dashboard has had it, seats extremely worn, carpets filthy or missing. Hood is knackered (rear screen torn) and the targa top cover ripped. Rust spots on the chassis as expected, so basically need a full refurb, oh the windows went up and down OK
They mention genuine mileage but the MoT history of L921 NJO actually suggests to me several years of it being stuck or working intermittently.
Adding on commission, the buyer paid £7168 for it. If he's not doing any work himself, well....
This is a good thing I suppose, unless others think otherwise? Or is it attracting speculators. I notice there don't seem to be as many for sale these days as previous years come spring time.

My neighbour had a Griff until this afternoon. He bought it for around £12k a couple of years ago and in not good shape. He owns a body shop so most of the work he had done by his own people. He did have the interior done by Central and he spent £7k in his ownership. He sold it for £25.5k He's now looking for another to do up after he returns from his cruise.
The thing is, notwithstanding that the Griffs seem to attract a premium (for some reason), there are 4 x Chimaera for every 1 Griff available.
Nearly 4 yrs ago when I bought mine, I'd looked for a while, and you get could get ones in pretty good condition for what basket cases are now fetching.
I admit that I thought dealers pitching Chimaera prices at £12k plus were dreaming but after that one has been restored (unless as you say the buyer owns a trimmer / bodyshop), it'll owe him at least that. It sold to someone in the room too (I was streaming it), not on the internet so they couldn't deny its condition!

The unsold cars didn't reach their reserve.
Some were sold without reserve and some will end up selling after they talk to the sellers if bidding got close to the reserve. Auctioneers make a good earning from this, 20% of any sale price basically (10% to buyers and sellers). Oh, + VAT, so 12% really!
