I wonder if anyone can tell me which way round the original battery terminals are, when looked at from the passenger seat, is the positive on the right or left? And are the terminals near you or on the opposite side? 98 Chimaera.

When I bought the car (as a bit of a project) it needed a battery, and they said they would sort it, but I am pretty sure it was not a new one and they just put in whatever they could make fit - with a hammer.

My battery box has been a bit mangled and I am not 100% sure the one in there is the right way round.

Also if anyone has a mail order battery recommendation that would be good too. Or I might go down to Bedford Batteries with the old unit and the box.

Cheers
Dave

Any chunky battery with a decent amount of cold cranking amps will do it - 072 is the standard fitment I think. Orientation of the terminals seems to vary with the car.
Or you can open the can of worms that is 'other' batteries and fit a smaller gel/racing battery. I put an Odyssey PC925 in mine. Have a search - there's loads of threads on this smile

Looking into the footwell from the passenger seat, the terminals are at the front of the battery, +ve on the left, -ve on the right on an 072.

There is actually quite a bit of reach on the battery cables, needed when you drag the battery box out in and out with the battery connected, and many owners have a battery with the +ve on the right without any issues.
