Track day silencers
Discussion
Hi folks. I'm doing a driver tuition day a week on Friday and busy trying to make the car quieter. It's come about a bit last minute so I am tying to get hold of some track day silencers. Spoken to Tim at ACT but it's not looking like he can get any in time. Does anyone have a set they want to sell or if you are based in the north west that you would consider lending me (I'd be happy to collect and leave a deposit equal to their value). Thanks. Simple.
Yay!! I am 30 miles from Blyton, at Newark on Trent. And I have a set of said silencers.
I am 1 mile off the A1, so M62, A1, and there is then a direct road from me to Gainsborough and out the other side to Blyton. And it's a wonderful, fun, sweeping, driving road which you will love.
You are welcome to borrow them if you would like. They take about 5 decibels off.

You may yet get a better offer as your route takes you past Halifax etc on the M62. Loads of TVR owners along that route. Some must have silencers.
Your overnight stop is a bit of a way past Blyton, with a nice cross country drive back there in the morning. You would have to be up pretty early to get to mine and then on to Blyton in the morning, as the A46 around Lincoln is like the East Lancs road on a Friday afternoon.....best avoided.
Why don't I courier them to you in advance, then you can either courier them back on the Monday or drive down to mine from Blyton, about 30 miles, then straight up the A1 to the M62. Stick Newark on Trent in AA Routefinder or whatever if you want to test journey times and mileages. At £5.40 per 25 miles, couriers aren't such a daft idea..
By the way, why do you think your car will fail? I don't actually remember Blyton owning a noise meter.

Thanks again. I think you are right courierring them to my overnight might be the best approach, unless you fancy a run out to Blyton that morning - your call of course. I would cover the courier cost or your fuel for the run down (plus a bacon sarnie...), please just let me know your preference.
The car is normally fully decatted and sleeved - so it's very loud. I am putting the main cat back in which has the biggest impact on noise, but it's still quite loud. Apparently Blyton is a 95db drive by limit. It's a tuition day for a friend any I so we will have an instructor in the car all day. The idea isn't to be going flat out but to learn technique, I am a total novice on track. So we can take it steady, short shift if needed and just keep the noise down. Hopefully it will be ok.

95db drive by is loud. Static tests at a loud track are usually 105db, which is about a decatted car with standard exhaust. Bedford is 101, static, so is quieter, and 87.5 drive by. I have failed their static test at 103 before now, but was let through because PetrolTed, founder of PH, was next along in his GT3 and was also 103. We both passed the drive by all day.
However, it depends on how close the microphone is to the track.
I will know a couple of days in advance when my car is back, so if it won't be ready in time I will courier them on Tuesday. If I will have the car in time then I will drive over to Blyton with them. It will be my first proper drive in the car freshly mapped, so I cannot see me waiting until the weekend.
