Chimaera in Spain
Discussion
Hello everyone
I suppose that you will be tired of participants who register and only write a message seeking information ...
I hope I will not be one of them and participate a lot in your forum.
First I introduce myself, my name is Santiago and I live in Madrid Spain. I am a fan of TVR since I was a child and saw a Griffith and I fell in love, thinking someday I would have one ...
Well maybe now the opportunity comes. The fact is that I have seen a Chimaera for sale in Spain and I have said why not?
I have been looking for information on the forum about TVR owners in Spain but I have not found anything and I have only found topics of travel in the country.
Therefore I would like to know if there is any owner in Spain who can help me in the purchase or advise on maintenance, garages, homologation, paperwork&documentation etc ... (the car on sell is in Spain but has license plates and English documentation).
I have never test & drive any, and I think I can only see this car so I can not compare with another as you advise, so your info would be very useful. Of course I have read all your purchase guides ...
Sorry for the beating and thank you very much !!! Will keep you informed ...

Hola Santiago!
Right, that's the limit of my Spanish (apart from Cerveza)
I think you would be better following a multi-pronged attack on this:
1. Find out about the rules for importing a UK car in to Spain - I remember my father in law, when he lived in Spain for 15 years for 50% of each year, found he effectively had to buy a Spanish car rather than import a UK car. Also find out about the Government test requirements - these cars emit quite a lot of CO2, and I know they are a problem to register in France etc.
2. Check the Spanish insurance requirements, particularly if the car is still on UK plates and in the UK, as you may want to drive your purchase home.
3. Arrange a visit to the UK with a lot of cars lined up to visit and some of us to help you. If you can arrange a flight over, then i am sure one or more of us will accommodate you while you look at cars. I feel you would be much better advised to look at a good choice of cars and colours to find the one you want. Then buy a good one and drive it home!! I also say this because the few TVR cars that are in, for example Germany, command higher prices.
4. Do bear in mind that there are some left hand drive TVRs around - so look for sale adverts in France, the Netherlands and Germany. There is a thriving TVR fraternity in those countries, and also in Norway

Santiago,
Try getting in touch with http://www.driveespana.com/ they regularly arrange excellent tours of Spain, with TVRs as well as other vehicles.
On some of the trips we have been on, we've been joined by TVRs with owners living in Spain.
Try getting in touch with Jasper who runs the tours, he maybe able to help by putting you in touch with one or more of the owners?
Good luck with your dream

As above contact Jasper Gilder at Drive Espana.
I've been on many of his tours and on two in particular we were joined for part of it by someone who lives in Madrid and owns a Griffith.
I'm sure he would be able to put you in contact with that person, and if not Jasper knows lots of other TVR owners in Spain.

Thanks to everybody,
After two weeks without internet, i'm going to try to contact with Jasper from Driveespana, as You have advised me.
On the other hand, I am collecting information to see the documentation needed to register the car in Spain. The seller has sent me the UK Registration Certificate V5, and with this I have asked to TVR Heritage company for the Certificate of comformity in order to have EU compliant. They have answered me that the model uis a Chimaera 400, but in the V5 indictes thath the vehicle is fitted with an engine of 5L.....
Could be it a problem? what is your experience with this configuration?
Thanks in advace again!!!!!!!
All the information is wellcome

If the model is a Chimaera 400 but the engine fitted is a 5.0 litre, then a previous owner has fitted the larger engine, AND done the correct thing and informed DVLA of the change.
Hope this doesn't cause issue. Many owners have done this when their 4.0 litre engine needs replacing, or even as an upgrade. The cars are identical otherwise when built as new except for the engine sizes.
