Changed distributor cap & HT leads - won't start
Discussion
Set out this morning to what I thought would be a quick job of changing the distributor cap & HT leads (I damaged one slightly a few weeks ago and never liked the blue ones, so bought some Bosch black ones).
Changed everything over easily enough, but then the car wouldn't fire - just cranked over...
In hindsight I went into it a bit gung-ho, I should have labelled things meticulously etc, but that's hindsight!
I was 99.9% sure I'd put the number 1 lead in the same position on the new dizzy as the old one, although that confidence has since dropped!
First question - if you look at a dizzy where the two clips are, what plug numbers should be either side of the clips (if that makes sense) - I've got 2 & 7 on the one side and 3 & 4 on the other.
I've since put the old dizzy & leads on in the same way but it still doesn't fire...not sure if this is because the engine is just flooded though - I removed a spark plug which was wet, so I've removed it in the hope fuel will evaporate - is this the recommended solution?
Second question, if that is the correct order (1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2) and they're in the correct places then what are my next steps?
Thanks,
Gareth

plenty of info on web for firing order/lead positions.............. for example.
Ahh that was exactly what I was looking for - my googling turned up plenty of pictures of the firing order, but none showing where the clips were!Interesting...I've just noticed looking at my own dizzy that my plugs don't match that picture.
The clips are in between 4&8 and 7&5 on mine - so one space further anti-clockwise.
Could this just be a trait of my chim? Or should I indeed move them round further.
It appears to be running fine as it is, I assumed it wouldn't run at all unless they were in a specific place.

I,d say leave it be. someone must have set it up in that position. You would need to pull the dizzy out and move the rotor around if you particularly want it like the picture but it won't matter as long as the timing is correct (which you won't have altered by changing the cap and leads)The clips are in between 4&8 and 7&5 on mine - so one space further anti-clockwise.

Thank you - will leave it be!ChilliWhizz said:

This is why the majority of TVR owners are great people... honest, modest, brilliant sense of humour, and know their limitations...

Nice one OP
