So, I was sat waiting for my wife to pick something up from a shop at the weekend when a chap wandered over. I presumed he was coming over to start a friendly conversation which is quite common when he asked if I was going to be long. I thought maybe I was blocking him in or something but then he asked with reasonable politeness if I could switch my engine off to help save the planet. rofl

I was that taken aback I smiled and switched it off. My wife then returned and so I restarted and gave it the beans, for which I got a verbal bking!

Ha ha - tried to start mine outside a quiet country pub on Sunday (people sat outside etc) and tried to start it 'quietly'. Just turned the key and no throttle. But Chim was having none of it and just spluttered and stopped. Tried again and same thing. On the third attempt I gave it a good boot of revs with a good roar of V8 music.... as I drove away I heard someone comment "noisy bugger!".... I think it was good humoured....

On a serious note (ish) we are kinda saving the planet running around in our classics. Until we all own Karmas (Sports car made of 100% recycled materials) which then also run on Hydrogen producing only water as emissions, we actually are not making such a huge carbon footprint as people think. Those batteries being built and then disposed of in these hybrids and electric cars are not great for the environment y'know! Save the environment, run an already existing V8! rofl

I agree with the man at the opticians. The carbon footprint required to create a vehicle in the first place is by far the largest part of the full life cycle. The 'climate' part of actually running said vehicle is pretty small. Retaining and maintaining our 'old' cars does far more to save the planet than binning it and ordering up an 'environmentally friendly' eco replacement. Soooo many youngsters see this as the clean and green way forward and a LOT of people overlook this fundamental fact. How wrong they are.

So we really ARE saving the planet! drivingyes

...and saving lives too! angel
The human cost of extracting the metals for modern batteries is one factor, that pedestrians can hear us coming is another... wink
Toyota Pious anyone?

The writing may be in wall for city centres though, because they just see the emissions today and not the overall environmental impact. All electric cars in France by 2040 is their target, and Volvo's plan is that all NEW models from 2019 will be hybrid.

When you consider the whole "carbon dioxide is dangerous and creates global warming" is a total hoax, it all becomes quite silly. Every time Al Gore farts, China sets up a new coal powerplant.... but we are the ones that should be heavily taxed and made to drive electric cars.

Which in turn will need to be charged. From a power source.

The world needs fewer people, politicians etc...

rant over biggrin

Contraception introduced into drinking water.

Mandatory means and intelligence test to unlock the antidote.

Stricter driving tests repeated every 5 years.

Ban on silly electric cars.

Thickos used to improve road quality, (I am not saying grind them up and use them as a material wink ).

What's not to like?
