Hmmm, woke upto this today, still in shock. There are faint scratches that were put there last year by a race bag As a mate went to close, wouldn't admit it though.
Now this, wtf, looks deliberate to me. Can't be sure but that looks fked to me. Needs painting,,,,,,, again. Any ideas how to lose it a bit for awhile until I win the pools!
Up and down we go. Still,,, cars going great guns smile

Yep that is deliberate, too perfect an arc to be anything else. This sort of thing never happens to crappy cars, so take that as a twisted compliment I suppose.

If this ever happened to me I always thought I would give one of those mobile chip/scratch repair outfits a shot - and if not perfect then back in the paintshop

B****ards!!
You could try some of that 'G3' scratch remover.
It won't get rid of it but will make it look a lot better for now.

Cheers ,,,, Eric

Rear N/s quarter panel by the way.

It was painted by central and has loads of scratches now, looks like I need another paint job as the fronts a mess after 20,000 miles use and so is the rear now. Could be someone's trouser leg rubbing past with zip pockets or something so not necessarily malicious but that don't help me none....
I'm very suspicious something's not right here..... better tie the dog up outside at night, hopefully they'll show again if it is scum bag kids,,, my car lives outside on the drive !!!

Oh well move on and see what gives!!!

Hadn't even thought about using the insurance,,,
They paid for the last re paint, I'm slowly paying them back via the slightly higher premium every year anyway!
Hmm, that is deliberate isn't it,,, it's not just me being self conscious.... it's never happened before and I know most the young kids around here. Ive even quietened it down recently with an exhaust change to favour my neighbours. Very odd.

It could be some extremely careless person in the typical supermarket carpark scenario.

Some careless person squeezing by with a handful of bags.

I was sitting in my daily once when a fat mum opened her passenger door to get her child out and let it bang against my car. There wasn't even a hint of acknowledgement from her, she didn't give a monkeys.

These sort of people care not a jot about other people's property.

Coincidently, mine is going in for a front-end respray at the beginning of August. Hopefully, £500 well spent!

It was'nt there yesterday Peter and I've not been in any car parks, only the cafe with loads of bikers hanging about but my car was set aside anyway. I'm just worried it's someone checking out the car at night, dog growled last night and I told her to quieten done, she'll be out there next time I know that.

Dif is magic Peter, I still want to thankyou, proper job you did there. thumbup not even nipped a bolt, all tight.

If I can blag it I might use my car for some track experience stuff for general public, I'll be driving it wink if I can make it pay, car will take some hammer then I know so a scratch isn't going to matter. I've just looked again and in the evening light I can't see it so much, I'll take it to a bodyman and see what he thinks.

Firstly, some mate! secondly, it's difficult to tell if deliberate or otherwise, whichever it's a scumbag thing to do if you knowingly do that kind of thing and don't own up to it. banghead (Does anyone remember the days when people used to leave details on car windscreen admitting fault?) anyway bloke, can't advise but you have my sympathy. bdS! furious

I have to stay positive or the guns come out and I just shoot every fker,,, not a good idea so better to forgive or I'll be a mad dog,,, more than normal. !!
What a pisser though. Never gad a car scratch so much, does my head in.
Yeah, race mates who are st at it too. wker, I don't help him anymore on the racing. And his cars run by the best team and it's still 15th, as I said I'd win in the fking thing, wker like that he is... he hates the truth and I tell him straight cos I can whoop his ass one freaking handed and he hates it. 20 years racing and he's still a journeyman, pfffft.

Thats s### Al. Apply some Colour Magic (light blue obviously) and leave it to dry for an hour. Dont be tempted to rub it off immediately. Then apply a wax - not polish - over it. You'll rub off the Magic from the good paintwork when you apply the wax and this will seal the colour into the scratch. Wont be perfect but will tone it down quite a bit. Trial and error for a cheap fix. Available at Halfords etc

If you have or can borrow a rotary or DA polisher, wet sanding the scratch would make it less visible as you are softening the edges.
Lightly flat with some pre soaked 2500 sandpaper until the surrounding laquer is dulled. Then polish out using rotary or da machine and decent quality cutting compound. This should make it far less noticeable....
If you have patience and a steady hand, you could go one step further and paint in the deeper wider sections of the scratch. VERY carefully mask each side of the scratch, touch in scratch with base coat colour and fine brush. A few light coats. Leave to dry then touch in with laquer, lightly building up the coats until it sits proud of the surrounding suffice. Leave a couple of days to dry, then wet flat flush and polish back up! I have done this with stone chips and scratchs and made them practically invisible.👍

That's a real shame Alun, it's difficult to see how deep the damage is, I had some scratches on the rear quarter from a local cat trying to get on the car, Mat Smith noticed them got his 4inch polisher out and with a little fine rubbing compound removed the majority of them it might be worth a try, I believe halfords do a kit that can be used by hand a bit less dangerous than trying it yourself with a power tool.

Its bang out of order whether deliberate or not and it isn't a scratch that would go unoticed. Plenty of people around now who just don't care unless its theirs, if they can get away with it they will and theres no conscience. The days of leaving a note on a windscreen are definately gone and its a bloody shame.

If theres one thing that bothers me more as I've got older is when things are not fair, so as you can imagine I get pissed off quite a bit.

If you reckon it happened at home I'd swap the exhaust back and waste some petrol, then wait outside with the dog and a baseball bat, the fu****s.

Direct Line have a no fault vandalism clause. As do Hastings that I switched to last year. May be worth checking your policy details. A claim under that clause does not count as a claim.

You'd have to report it to the police as vandalism and get a ref number I expect. The insurance companies do this to deter spurious claims for a respray, not surprisingly!

As mentioned, this is fixable if you have the time and inclination. This will arm you with a really useful skill for future paint issues.

If not, then it's down the paint shop.

A half-way, temporary fix is to look at some stuff called Chipex. Website describes it better than I can.
