Alright all,
Strange problem tonight, having a bit ride down through the lakes tonight with a few others, we stopped off to see a guy's car collection, got back in the car and turned the key, nothing, ignition was on and when I switched it off the stepper clicked, managed to bump start her to get her going, went a couple of miles up the road, switched her off, tried the ignition again and she started no problem.
Any idea what it might be.

Cheers Mark

Prime suspect would be the immobiliser.
They likely become intermittent before failing completely.

Thanks for your replies, she had a new ignition and immobilizer fitted before I bought her and there's a hot start kit fitted, she did bump start so could it be the starter?

Imagine God in short trousers.
I had a 1967 Mini then (roughly the tech age of the Chimaera).
It did that when the starter stuck.
Had to take it off and oil the bendix gear.
I knew which end of a spanner was which at 19, and had flexible wrists and fingers.

I had this. I fitted new battery, leads, starter motor.

Took it to Carl Baker and had the alarm system cleaned out, new (more modern) one fitted.

All good three weeks later.
