Clutch pedal noise
Discussion
If the noise is at the gearbox then it could be the lever arm pivot.
The fulcrum point of the release lever is a socket sitting on a ball. This ball wears through the lever and will eventually fail completely.
If it is this then you may have to live with it until it fails or you have the gearbox off for another reason.

It's defo in the pedal operation or so it feels, would a broken finger make noise with clutch pressed down as when engines running pedal feels normal.
Engine off it's like I'm catching something on the way down, doesn't do it on the way up.
It's gonna be one of the things mentioned above I'm sure.
Feels stiff, clutch action down defo feels like it needs lube.
Hmm.

A broken finger probably wont be obvious or even detectable with the engine running. But, if the clutch is heavy or heavier than normal this can indicate the fingers have become hardened due to heat and wear and tear. You should be able to see the pressure plate with the rubber bung removed.

Cheers Iain. Clutch feels about the same to use, no discernible difference in bite or anything like that.
Would it be more likely to slip under full power with a broken finger.
I'll take a peak. Bummer.

Steve
Would this mean a new lever or is a repair possible.
Thanks Al

Get someone to dip the clutch while your underneath whilst touching the release arm if the noise drones through your digits then suspect a failing release arm/fork
obviously in a place that said digits dont get trapped but you know this already
It's not the pedal box.
obviously in a place that said digits dont get trapped but you know this already
Took out inspection bung and indeed the clunk/ crunch is emitting from the release bearing of arm area.
It only does this with engine off.
I've done exactly as you've just mentioned Simon lol and used number one Grandson to depress clutch as I have my arm in a precarious place. No noise and no binding with engine running. No broken fingers on pressure plate so I'm suspecting release bearing/ pivot arm!

but eng not running obviously via the big hole in the BH Yes Simon, that's where I put my hand
Rather impressively or so I thought, my big rubber bung in the gearbox BH has Tvr embedded in it.
So I removed that and with a torch and helper pressing clutch on my command I watched the fork arm operation and the release bearing/ piston/ plunger( is what it looks like ) press onto and push pressure plate. All fingers look and feel intact.
With engine off and hand resting on top of release bearing when clutch goes down a clunk/ tick crunch grind can be heard and felt directly at the release bearing.
So started engine and used torch to see gearbox shaft spinning etc, carefully put my hand up there and pressed it against fork arm and when clutch was pressed just a smooth operation.
Is there a schematic drawing somewhere of the clutch and release bearing/ fork arm assembly so I can work it out. I've not done anything on the clutch myself. Slave cyl is fairly new and again felt smooth. I can see what looks like a piston with cut outs in it, i presume that's what the fork engages and pushes release bearing forward. I'll try and find more reading material
