Hi,

I'm relatively new to the Chimaera world.

I used to drive aircooled Porsches. In the Porsche world the advice is to make sure you rev the engine hard every once in a while to keep the engine healthy.

In the TVR world I read about RV8 cam wear and other engine issues.

Its a lot of fun to give my stock 4.0 the full boot, but can the oil pump and oiling system keep up with short bursts of WOT or should I be more careful in order to avoid future rebuild bills?

As far as i am aware the oil system is fine for road use.
Just keep it topped up (these engines do use oil) and use a good quality multigrade oil with plenty of zinc content.
If you plan on enjoying it to its full potential on the race track, and extended baffled sump would be a good idea.

I give mine a boot full every now and again, as long as your oil is of a good quality and your pressure is good I wouldn't worry about it.

It's just a car with a Range Rover engine in it..........you know, the thing that you are supposed to use to get you into and around the Outback.

So you can drive it how you like.

(However, change it for a Toyota Landcruiser lump if you are planning on coming OUT of the Outback.) whistle

As long as it's upto temperature before you give it the beans it should be fine.
Replacing oil regularly is probably the best defence for engine longevity and plenty of mechanical sympathy. Luckily these cars are pretty quick between 2500/4500 revs so no big shakes. Taking them much past 5000 revs is almost pointless as the powers disappearing by then so use your head and it should last a long while,,,,,, I hope.
