Has anyone found a way to increase the handbrake efficeincy of a Chim please ?

Apply the footbrake when pulling the handbrake.

Hmmm.....not so sure Simon scratchchin My Cerb (hopeless) and then the Chim was never the best despite many attempts. rolleyes
But, once I had fitted the Mondeo calipers (with a bit of a modification to get them to work) the handbrake easily passed the last MOT (truthfully I'll have you know). wink

there are other alternatives hispec for one which come with a separate handbrake mechanism works well

Well I will take that Pepsi challenge any hill you like biggrin however I have got OE Ford rear discs rear brake pads and brand new old stock calipers inc hand brake cables all gen pukka Ford tongue out all working in perfect unison smokin

Can you expand on the Mondeo calipers and how you adapted them please ?

The HiSpec handbrake mechanism is fairly poor for a road car in my opinion

If all is working correctly, first try and back off the handbrake adjuster so the handbrake comes on at a higher point.

I find this gives more leverage and therefore the handbrake is more effective. Mine clicks on at about four clicks.

When it used to come on at two clicks it was definitely less effective.

In my experience (3rd Chimaera now), they've always been all or nothing. Pressing the footbrake first hard is definitely the way.

My current one is 2 clicks, no grip at all, 3 clicks - full on. I always park in gear out of habit though anyway due to having a sloping drive.

I've tried this .........and it works , I can get another notch on the lever and it holds beer
