Time to do an oil change on the chimaera, been off the road for abit last time used silkolene pro s 10w-50 sounded abit more noisy on this stuff compared to the 15w-40 mineral I had before. Had a quick look back through post and see Valvolene VR1 20/50 was recommended alot is this still the recommened choice?
Anyone have the part no for oil filter to hand? Seem to remember they came in 2 lengths ?

Oil - an opinionated choice. In reality, there will be plenty of oils that will be absolutely fine in the car. Valvoline is one of them.
Personally I use Penrite HPR15.
Oil filter - if you've got an oil cooler use 501590059 if not use 501670019. They're Euro Car Parts part numbers, just stick them in the search bar. Or carparts4less.

Valvoline VR1 Racing 20w50 is a good choice, just make sure it has the 'Racing' in the name as this (in a roundabout way) tells you it's their full zinc brew which is an essential ant-wear additive on flat tappet like engines like the Rover V8. The reason Valvolene brand their high zinc oils 'Racing' is because zinc kills catalytic converters, if they didn't put 'Racing' in the name people would be making claims for damaged catalytic converters, it's an American litigation thing
Valvoline VR1 Racing 20w50 is a mineral oil and nothing wrong with that, however, a comparable synthetic oil will alow you to extend your oil changes by at least 1,000 miles and it will continue to deliver protection at higher oil temps, although you may only need this feature if you track the car.
Personally I use Penrite HPR15 which is a 15w60 fully synthetic oil, compared with the Valvoline VR1 Racing 20w50 it's also less viscous in winter yet offers the better summer & high heat protection of a 60 - 20w/50 vs 15w/60. A five litre pack of Valvoline VR1 Racing 20w50 is typically £32 and the Penrite HPR15 can be had for £41 from Classic Oils including postage so less than a tenner more to get the above benefits.

I collect my Penrite HPR15 from Classic Oils when I attend the Bicester Heritage Sunday Scramble events so save the postage, this means I pay £33 which makes it more or less the same price as Valvoline VR1 Racing 20w50. Of course a Chimaera needs roughly 7 litres to fill including the oil filter and you'll need some extra to use as your top up oil between changes, so you're then into buying two 5 litre packs.
To manage cost without compromising on quality I buy 5l of Penrite HPR15 and 5l of Classics Oils own brand 20w50 which was developed to compete with the ever popular Valvoline VR1 Racing 20w50 so has the same spec, Classic Oils Heritage 20W50 sells for just £18 for 5l.

I fill with Penrite HPR15 and top off with 2l Classic Oils Heritage 20W50, between oil changes the Classic Oils Heritage 20W50 is used to replace what my engine consumes which delivers optimum engine protection for the best possible price.

If you have a re built engine or a later engine use the oil recommended as mine rattled like a b
d on the above oil.
10/40 semi with a touch of classic 20/50 should do the trick or it does for me.
I use my engine within very safe zones, 1100-4000 max!
Just don’t need to go any higher and often change up when still in the 2000 range.
Every now and then blow the cob webs out so to speak but that normally last seconds so good properties around these revs is what I’m looking for.
10/40 supports better flow rate even if pressure appears slightly lower and a touch of 20/50 so say 1/2 to 1ltr added to the 10/40 mix helps low rev tapping and mine runs very quiet since I went this route.
Very happy
