Alternator - have I missed something
Discussion
The simple answer is to find a local Chim or Griff owner in Sarf Wayels who is happy to let you try his alternator on your car. Measure voltages with it on his car first, then swap it onto yours. If he feels really brave, put your alternator on his car and test. If you lived near me, we would be doing this tomorrow morning.

Just get a new 'un
But I like potching!! (Welsh slang for tinkering) . I will get a new one though :-)
Not a difficult job but time consuming which is OK if doing it for yourself but no good if trying to run a business.

If you want quality genuine.

I have a working spare with a broken bottom mount if you wanted to test it, too much of a faff to repair but if you have the time and equipment.
I also have a spare casing courtesy of Steve D if you want to try and build one good one but it’s hardly worth it for such a key piece of equipment.

If you have less than 14V output at the alternator, then it’s dead, which by the sound of it is the case. I recently bought one from a local motor factor for abou £70. This was 75 amp, where as the one I took off was 55 amp.
The one in mine is 100amp, so a lower amp one will do the job?Message Board | Chimaera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
