Carpet underlay - Type and amount

I am about to order a set of new carpets for my Chimaera. (Wessex wool blend from DCTrimming)

At same time I want to fir decent underlay, does anyone have any recommendations for type and the amount needed ?

As its 'possible' to get wet at some point I'd like to avoid anything that will absorb water so some sort of closed cell product I think is favorite

Hi. I've also been looking into doing the same with some sound deadening as well. The link below has some good information on insulation and sound deadening combinations. The Car builder solutions catalogue is also worth a look

The reference to the 'silver stuff' is probably Dynamat. Whilst it is very good it is also very expensive. It also has another problem in that it has Dynamat printed all over it. When you use it you have to trim it to fit and are left with random offcuts which you are not going to throw away as it cost so much. When you fit all the random bits you have 'Dynamat' or parts thereof at all sorts of angles.

'Dodo' works just as well and it way cheaper.
However it is a sound deadening product and does not offer any flex to the underside of the carpet which is what you need to deal with the different heights caused by overlapping carpet.

I would (and have) used the 'dodo dead mat hex' first then used 'Dodo super liner 6mm' (closed cell foam) on top.

Agree on the Dynamat stuff, it is expensive and I don't like the logo all over it, and its heavy stuff too.

Dodo will look into that too, ta

Probably not around the tunnel and rear of seats but may make a difference on the outer door skins. It really works well on steel panels but we don't have those.
