Wipers refusing to stop and suspect park switch, unless Ph wisdom knows best.

If I put the wiper position to stop, they keep running, however if I switch the ignition off and re start, they have stopped moving, start them off again and won't stop until the ignition stops.

If park switch, any idea where it is?

Any ideas folks?

Oh and hello again, another chim in the family once more biggrin

Tried the relay? Pushed it in?

As shown in the below diagram

With the motor gear in its park position, the wiper motor park switch switches a negative (earth) through the intermittent wipe relay and onwards to the wiper switch which switches that very same negative onwards to the 1st speed brush of the wiper motor, meaning that the earth brush and 1st speed brush are both of negative polarity

The above method is used to achieve electric braking of the wiper motor when the wiper motor gear is at its park position

Without electric braking of the motor, the momentum of the wiper linkage and motor would cause the the wiper motor gear to travel past its park position and give another wipe cycle

A wiring, wiper relay or wiper switch fault will also cause the wipers to not switch off, the fault isn't always caused by a bad park switch

Check you've got brake lights, think they're on the same fuse and my wipers always go weird when the fuse blows

Not long fitted new park switch as found out it was shorting and blowing the one of two circuits it’s connects too , so wipers were operational but as that’s on a separate fuse and blowing the circuit that’s also for brake lights so had no brake lights but wipers worked !

So don’t assume if they work your brake lights do !

On my 2 brake park switch now and noticed the other day they don’t park again ??

There are 3 fuses involved with the wipers 15, 17 & 18 but it is 18 that does the parking. As already said 18 is also brake lights.

Do the wipers move slowly for a moment when at their park position?

If they don't, there is every chance that it is the park switch causing the problem

Would help use diagnose this problem if we knew where it is getting its power from when the switch is at stop.
With it at stop but ignition on try pulling each of the fuses 15, 17 & 18 and report back.

If it is getting its power from F15 then this could be a timer/relay fault.
If it is getting its power from F17 then this could be a switch fault.
If it is getting its power from F18 then this could be a timer/relay fault or park switch.
