Just looking for a little help, in the job of replacing the rusted water filled seats with MX5 heated ones I found a set of mystery boxes mostly filled with water underneath the passenger seat with some less than factory looking wiring tapped in behind the passenger rear pillar.

Any idea what these are, I assume it's possibly to do with the Meta system but I'm not really sure. Would be good if I can get rid of the rubbish as I'm going to bypass the Meta system in any case. I did try and google the passenger seat removals\battery relocations in the hope of finding someone else with the same boxes but no luck.

There are none under my passenger seat, but I did see my Meta interior movement sensor 7 years ago under the top of the centre armrest thingy, ie alongside the seat, and as far as i rem, ember it was the shape of the black rectangle in your photo.

The wiring plugs are factory, they are the Lucus TTS plugs. the red one is the interior light I think. The fuse is a new one on me as are both those boxes as most meta alarm and immobiliser units are under the dash top or above the glove box hatch under the passenger dash. They normally have a red sticker on them. Well that is the case in my Mk1

Thanks that makes sense as I thought I knew all the boxes for meta and during my dash removal I found them. To the bin they go.

It will have a permanent live + so make sure you isolate/disconnect that from fuse box end etc

Thats a Tracker 'Monitor' system; the small unit screwed to the main silver part is the movement sensor and the black half box is the battery back-up. I fitted hundreds of them back in the day (they were approved fitment to Porsche for years). The BBU is recommended for replacement every 5 yrs. Not sure if it's worth anything nowadays - and likely causing a battery drain if checked.
