I’m new to tvr and have jumped in at the deep end.

So I’ve just done a deal on a car that’s in bits.
Engine sat in the bay is a 4.6 - have the old block with the car as well.

Is this a relatively easy thing to get running with the existing loom set up??

I think I’ve got some hours to be put in before it’ll hit the road though🤣

If everything is ok and in order and your a competent mechanic then yes.
The hard part is learning the technical as there are not exactly build manuals for the car but the engine is an RV8 which is about as basic tech as its comes I suppose.
The existing loom set up so the Lucus 14 CUX is ok if the component parts are ok.
Rovergauge diagnostics now make it possible to read engine and ecu data on the move so a great and useful tool so yes if you have done this sort of work before but without more details/ pictures it’s hard to say what you have on your hands.

I’ll get some pics up once it’s sat in my workshop and I can whip the tub back off.
The software for diagnostic - where the best place to get this and any associated leads etc.
Car is in many bits with the interior stripped and engine bay very bare. There are boxes and boxes of kit.

Very much looking forward to getting into this - I’m hopeful it won’t take long to get back into a working car.

Hi OP. Where are you based? I have a roverguage cable but it's in the workshop where my car is in for a chassis rebuild. As I am moving to a canems ECU the cable will be available but I'm not planning on seeing the car until the end of the month. It's in the Cotswolds right now.

I should also have a lot of the Lucas ECU and associated parts available once the ECU is swapped out.

Also, have you got a copy of the Steve Heath Bible?

I’m in Worcestershire.
The bible come with the car - as do boxes and boxes of stuff. Not sure there’s a cable there.
Thanks very much for the link - as soon as I know what I’ve got I will be all over that 👍

The 4.0 and 4.6 Range Rover engines are identical except for the crankshaft. You will get another 40 bhp and torque out of the 4.6.
All the ancillaries are identical, you just need a 4.6 ECU chip.
Someone will correct my if I have oversimplified

Good idea - but it’s just a flashed chip - which unless putting it on a dyno and custom mapping it simply doesn’t need to be a specialist. In fact many specialists in my experience are simply well trained wallet emptying specialists

To allow dealing with front and rear brakes, engine bay prep and fitting the transmission up - no diff, driveshafts or clutch fitted. The body wasn’t bolted on and a 15 minute whip the body off will save hours of hassle working round stuff

Run the brake and fuel lines in as well. fit front anti-roll bar but not its mountings just cable tie it to chassis above where the mounts would be. Fit handbrake cable.

Thanks Steve - noted.
The brake lines and fuel lines are all new.
I’ve bought new braided flexis last night along with discs ans pads all round since I’m missing all that.
Just need bolts for the caliper to uprights now

Good fun aint it.
I agree taking the body back off has made this a lot more enjoyable to assemble.
I have to do the same thing.
I can do both the chassis work more thoroughly and address some underbody issues while it’s easy to get t.
Measure twice do it once sort of thing.
Keep the pictures flowing. thumbup

So I managed to remove the cluster of old immobiliser stuff - not sure why there were three boxes - but they are now tossed to one side.
The dash I’ve stripped down and is ready for primer and paint.
Fitted the lower dash section in - slow progress.
Today I will fit the rear lights and glue the boot carpets in place
