stepper issue?

Well, today it happened. After 15 months and 6000 miles, I finally had need to push the TVR.

I haven't used it for 10 days or so, and was pleased when it started on first turn of the key. Reversed out of the garage and down the drive, on to the main road and then it stalled.

needed to wait 5 mnutes or so before it would start again, ideld for a minute or so and then died again. I then pushed the car 50 yards back to the house - when I say 'I", I really mean by 16 yr old lad, who didnt see the funny side of the car firing up nicely once he had pushed me home.

After I had let it warm up a bit, it seemed to be fairly happy. although idle sounded a bit lumpy

I am guessing this might be a stepper motor issue - its never been cleaned whilst I have had the car - nothing else seemed to be amiss - although I have discovered a coolant leak during a few minutes poking about in the engine bay

I'll go and have a go at the stepper, but is there anything else that would cause this

Even if the stepper had closed off too much air and got stuck, you should be able to keep the engine running with a bit of throttle(?) If you can get it going, keep a sharp eye on the rev counter for erratic behaviour like dropping suddenly, as the ignition amp will kill an engine completely if it dies, unlike most ECU components.

I just whipped the stepper off and it didn't seem too cruddy really - gave it a clean anyway - idle may be more stable - just less than 1000rpm on dial.

when the car initially stalled - it felt like a big shunt - (which the car hasnt done of late, since installing the NGK bpr6es plugs) which i didnt manage to catch dipping the clutch. I am assuming it was flooded after stalling hence needing a couple of minutes to collect itself.

I wont get chance to have an other look at it till friday.
