I was doing some wiring at the front of the car in the area where the air filter is and spotted a piece of fuel hose lying in the driver's wing area. Curious, I picked it up and saw it disappeared up into the wheel arch. Eventually I realised that the hoses to my carbon canister had both been cut off! Looks like many years ago.

The hose from the fuel tank breather pipe was just venting into my wheel arch and onwards into the cabin and the plenum had an air leak as the hose from the plenum was sitting cut next to the carbon canister.

What I found.

I checked that the hose into the plenum wasn't blanked off in any manner.

I don't understand why I wasn't seeing the effect of a major plenum leak. The car has been driving fine. Rovergauge didn't show anything either apart from the short term trim has always been a bit higher on one bank. Do people usually blank off this port when the carbon canister has been deleted?

Where's best to have the breather located these days. Up near the diff with a small filter of some type attached? Any recommendations please?

Yes blank the plenum hose and at the back leave a short length of hose and get a small filter for the end.
I fixed it up high to the chassis just with some cable ties.

In theory I’m assuming removing that inlet pipe to plenum from canister would clean up the fuel mix very slightly?
Can anyone confirm if that’s correct thinking please.
Cheers thumbup

Could you please let me know if this looks like a sensible location? I used a simple motorcycle fuel filter with a metal frit inside that can be cleaned if required (the filter body unscrews). I checked that the breather hose was clear back to fuel tank.

Do you still have the roll over valve in the breather line? If not I would fit one for safety.

Yes, it's still there and the complete line back to the fuel tank is clear and passes air.

Looks ok to me, roughly where mine was.

Thanks, I’ve started to remove all the redundant tubing now and have blocked off the plenum port with a blank from a spare manifold.
