Worked out why the diff was a bit noisy
Discussion
Shaking down the new (to me) car since I got it on the drive. Driven about 10-12 miles so far and thought that the diff was a bit noisy.
No problem I thought. I’ll change the 1.75 litres or so of oil and put some fresh in. This came out

Rebuilt 4,000 miles ago so a bit of a surprise although no implication that it was anybody’s fault, it was also 4 years ago. I haven’t checked the breather yet in case it’s blocked up and the oil has gone through the pinion (happens a lot on Stags, is it a thing on these BTR diffs?)
Oh well 2 litres of Millers available to refill so we’ll see how it is after that.
By the way if anyone needs some Lodexol 80/140 Milner Off Road in Matlock have it for £27 delivered for 2 litres. They were very helpful keeping me up to date with delivery dates when there was a delay. Recommended.

It’s not something I’ve heard complaints of. Is there any visible signs of leaks as the whole area should be pretty clean if only 4000 use. That’s very strange.
It didn’t look any worse than I would expect, although I didn’t stick my head too far in. I’ll have another look tomorrow. Drain was quite tight as well so it hadn’t escaped through there. Hey hoSteve_D said:
So if that has not been serviced then you have plenty more service items to address now.

You're not wrong Steve, something to keep me out of trouble. Bizarrely the engine oil looks fresh but the air filter has definitely been there for a while.Steve
With the salt on the roads and the outrigger repair to do, I'm not really driving it at the moment anyway while I get things sorted.
I've got some outriggers on order so once the Stag rear axle is back on, I can make room in the garage and get all those jobs done.
Still got a small leak into the footwell so need to track that down and the rear of the hood seems to let a bit in as well. I've waterproofed it with 4 coats of Thompsons so I'm wondering if it's coming past the frame/body. I'm assuming theres no sealant in there.
