Separating the Cresent shaped joint in the upper steericolum

Viewing one of the epas conversion topics, one of the posts shows the Cresent shaped upper swivel joint on the Chimaera Steering column, that has been separated.

My question is: How to separate the Cresent shaped joint without damaging it?

There appears to be a plastic/ acetal semi circular shaped infill making up the non- metallic part of the recirculating ball, I assume this has to be removed, to unhook both the crescents from each other, enabling seperation?

Advice and method please anybody?
