Slight misfire
Discussion
My 4l Chimp has a slight misfire on a light throttle at around 1500-2000 revs. It seems to be slightly worse after a recent service (during which the spark plug 'connectors'(?) were changed). Plugs and leads were replaced 6months ago. It's not too bad at the moment, but I'd prefer to try and work it out sooner rather than waiting for things to go bang.... Anyone experienced a similar problem?
I had a problem with similar characterisitics. At the time, the local dealer suggested that it might be the Spark plug connectors which I understand to be the long metal bit at the end of the HT leads. He hypothesised that one of these could be arking across the head causing a misfire. On this basis, you may wish to go back to your garage.
Other than that, my first thought would be to find out which connectors were changed and to inspect each to ensure everying is how it should be.
A second idea might be to look at the spark plug pots while the engine's running, perhaps in a garage where the arking would be more visible.
Cheers for that - always good to know I'm not alone! The plug connectors are what Mole V replaced (thanks for the better description). Reading around, I also have the 'jumping rev counter' that other people have ascribed to the HT leads (despite them being replaced on my car v. recently) - sounds like something in that department, anyway.
