Does anyone know if MGF's were/are fitted with a roll bar, if not can they be retro fitted.

They are not fitted with a rollbar, but there are quite a few options to install one afterwards: XPower (the official MG addon), Mike Satur, ...
All available in a large number of colours and finishes too I believe.
