Warranty / reliability...
Discussion
Hi there, my parents (early 60's) drive a Nissan Qushqui & find it a bit hard riding & whilst the seats are comfortable enough are not impressed with the finish of the car. They asked my opinion for what they could get next that would be a step up - requirements are comfort, smooth ride, no interest in performance whatsoever.
I am more of a performance car type of chap & drive a 987 Boxster & had a Boxster before & before that a Golf GTi, you get the picture. I recommended they try a few cars in a more premium sector but avoid any 'sport' models. My suggestions were: Jag XF, Audi A6 & Lexus IS. I know this is the Jag page (have posted about the other options elsewhere) so no worries if the answer is just for that marque but any experience with the others is appreciated if you have it... with the Boxster I simply would not run it without a warranty due to the huge bills in case of engine or gearbox failure. My folks are looking at approved used cars 1-2 years old, do Jag offer the option to extend the warranty for an annual cost & what sort of level is it? How reliable are the cars, as they are used to driving brand new (but admittedly lesser) cars & don't want the hassle of getting repairs done...
Any thoughts appreciated, thanks

Fit and finish comes down to manufacturer, not necessarily model of car. Nissans are definitely in a different sector compared to Jaguar or even Infinity, Audis I find aren't that nice inside, their plastics are horrible.
In answer to your question, the XF is a cracking car, it is very reliable, you can extend the warranty. I have to admit I was not a fan of the standard seats. The seats found in the XFR/3.0d S are awesome however.
The X-Type which is no longer made but is a very nice piece of kit, very reliable and quite good value now. Go for one of the last fully loaded ones made and make it the SE model.
If you have a good local dealer, you should be in for a nice experience.
