S-Type R registered as 2.5 V6 ... Correct?!
Discussion
While perusing the classifieds for things I'd like but can't afford to run I saw this advert:
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3002418.htm
Is his little story about the first S-Type R models true? Or is he trying to pull a fast one?

What's the accusation here, that it's a 2.5 with a 4.2 badge stuck over it?
I don't know. It just sounded dodgy to me. That a R would have a log book stating it's a 2.5. Jag would have just taken one off the line, and registered it as a 4.2 V8 if his story was true...shirly.It just sounded wrong...
It doesn't ring true.
I've never seen any mention of these "kit build" cars in the literature.
The idea that Jaguar would sell a 4.2 litre S/C car and put it down as a 2.5 litre in the logbook is amusing, but improbable.
NormanD has already pointed out the comment on plugs.
This all makes one wonder - what exactly is being sold here? Is it a 2.5 litre car that has had 4.2 litre S/C innards dropped in - possibly a combination of 2 write-offs? It seems unlikely; that would be a huge job and not financially worthwhile - although given he is asking over 6k for a 10-year old S-Type, it's possible.
It's also listed on eBay. The photo of the engine bay does appear to show a S/C engine, but no CATS. Possibly the sellers comments along the lines of "the spec was changed before the proper R came along" are an attempt to explain this away. The listing was ended early with no bidders.
I'm curious as to what this actually is...
