parts no longer available shock!!! :(
Discussion
I tried to order a new replacement bootlid badge for the 2000 XJ8 from Taggarts Jaguar in Glasgow this morning. They initially told me it would be ordered and delivered by Tuesday.
Then at lunchtime I received a call to apologise for the fact that ' the part required is no longer produced by Jaguar and is unavailable'
This got me wondering what other parts, especially trim is unavailable for the 308 range.
Anyone have any ideas how serious this might be?

It is poor that Jaguar give so little support; it seems to me that the parts availability for my XJ40 better than the X300 which replaced it so it comes as no surprise to me that the X308 should fare no better. I guess providing spares for the old models is a loss maker and the parts for the XJ40 which are still available were made before Ford introduced this regime. Then at lunchtime I received a call to apologise for the fact that ' the part required is no longer produced by Jaguar and is unavailable'

Do you know the part number for the badge? Other outlets may stock the badge thus it may still be available even though Jaguar don't themselves have any left.
Ebay can also be a source for new parts such as this. Search for "Jaguar badge" - there will be several hundred hits, one or more of them are likely to be the correct one for your XJ8.
I bought a 'Jaguar' badge for the boot a year or so ago. Turned out is was the wrong one but I sold that on ebay and ordered the correct one via Jaguar classic parts' website. I'd have a look there as there are loads of colour combinations and some have chrome or black borders. It might be a case of ordering both the right hand and left hand badges in matching colours....or follow the advice others have suggested.
Found one!!!! Got a brand new (which was a must have for me) and original factory part from a supeb guy online. He has a great range of Jaguar items at very competitive prices too.

I am still massively hacked off at Jaguar though, it seems outrageous to be discontinuing parts this early.

We are in a recession and nobody will want to hold onto inventory, if they can offload it. I suspect Jaguar will have offloaded quite a lot of spares into the Jaguar Specialist suppliers market. This especially for non current models. In recent years Jaguar dealers have for many priced themselves out of the maintenance market once a car passes out of warranty after 3 years. The cars are then maintained by Jaguar specialists who will carry in some cases parts or use one of the Jaguar parts specialists, this frees Jaguar up to concentrate on holding stock on current models.A major change in all manufacturing in the last 20 years is JIT (Just In Time), were quanities of parts are produced specifically for required orders, with little surplus, this may explain why your part is already unavailable. I own an X type I like you Peter wonder how long it will be before new parts become hard to find.
