XFR real world MPG?
Discussion
I currently drive a Maserati Gransport and I need something a bit more 'family'orientated (proper back seats and large boot). I am getting about 14mpg from the Maser for my 12 mile round trip to work on b roads.
What is the real MPG I am likely to see from the XFR in similar conditions?
It would be nice to have maybe a 25% improvement in fuel and get perhaps 18mpg? Is that feasible or unrealistic?
Any comments would be appreciated.

As always it depends on the mix/type of roads - what's your average speed on the 12 mile commute?
For longer trips that include motorways etc I will get an indicated 25mpg without trying too hard
For lots of stop start urban work it can be more like 15mpg. I'd certainly be horrified if I saw 14mpg for a 12 mile trip.
When I fill up I typically see an indicated range of 300 miles - 250 miles is maybe a more realistic range.
I've now done 14k miles and economy now seems slightly better than when the car was new.

Thanks for the response.
My journey is 6 miles each way. A cold start followed by constant 30 - 60 mph on B roads without really stopping (slowing down at a couple of roundabouts and junctions). Park up at work then repeat on the way home.
If I could get close to 18mpg the XFR will be on my shortlist!

I reckon you should get 18mpg or more for that journey
The mpg increases rapidly after the first mile or 2
I do recall that for a short period in the depths of winter I had to drive 1 mile on a cold start and return about 1 hour later.
As far as I remember I used to get 7mpg there and about 8mpg on the way back (very slightly down hill and engine not stone cold)....
Over 6 miles I reckon you should easily hit 18mpg if it's not stop-start as you say.

After just 1000 miles on a 4.5k mile XFR here in Houston I can concur with what jagseven says. I am seeing 15 US mpg which is about 18 in real money. Obviously with it being a new car I have been giving it the beans whenever practical so I expect this to settle down a bit. My commute is 10 miles each way, stop start in parts but 50mph for some stretches too. Typical urban US highway commute in other words. The same commute in my old Audi S4 V8 saw about 22 mpg in UK terms. I think 18mpg for your commute will be easily achievable. I have the aircon on super-freeze constantly too! 250 mile from a tank is about right.
General ownership impressions - it doesn't sound good enough for what it is, but that is my only real complaint. No other observations to share, I love it but then it is the fastest and most expensive car I have ever bought so I am not likely to hate it, am I?!

overall ownership experience after 2 years and 14k miles has been excellent - reliable, easy to live with, very fast
like David only complaint was a lack of noise but a Spires sports exhaust sorted that - the burble even makes going slow fun - I now tend to drive with the windows down all the time
gearbox seems very good - it knows when you are on a hill etc and always seems to be in the right gear - not like any auto I have ever had before
paddles give full manual control if you're in the mood
I do think the car seems to have more road noise than when it was new but I've put this down to the tyres which will need changing soon (about 3mm of tread remains)
only negatives tend to be related to the type of car - it's a heavy saloon so don't expect it to handle like a Lotus Elise but it still goes round corners very well and you cannot go on a family holiday in an Elise!
first service was about £300 and just been quoted £430 for second service but shopping around might get this down
not driven a Maser so cannot compare to what you've got but I don't think you'd be disappointed by the XFR

I test drove the XFR soon after it was launched and was very impressed but at the time my budget didn’t stretch to a brand new one. I was offered a ridiculously good deal on a Lexus IS-F so opted for that and found the ride so choppy I had to get rid of it within a year. I then drove the Maserati Gransport and was blown away with the looks, the ride, the performance and handling were just sublime (and the acres of leather and carbon fibre). I was going to keep it but Mrs tcant has just ordered a BMW 1 Series convertible. This causes a few problems as neither of us have much of a boot and the rear leg space isn’t great for the kids in either car.
The XFR meets all the criteria, large boot, rear leg room and performance. With the additional MPG I will get plus the much cheaper servicing (the Maserati service costs over £1000) I think my mind is made up.
Thanks
