Anyone have any idea why there are pages AND pages of used/barely used examples in the classifieds? There just seems to be an absolute shedload?!!?! All dipping fast in their value?!

Cars with 7,000 miles under their belts dipping below the 40K mark?! Madness surely?

Fleet disposals?

I was going to say that a face-lifted model would be nice but what I mean is an arse-lifted model.

NB Here's one with only 880 miles! www.pistonheads.com/sales/3047078.htm

Lots may have been registered by the manufacturer to give the impression of greater sales, others will have been on loan to prominent buisness people or sportsmen or will have done the rounds of golf clubs as part of dealer promotion days. Anything for a bit of publicity.

It's a kind of semi transparent discounting - 9 months old and a few k on the clock makes it much easier to buy effectively a brand new car without paying the brand new price.

Fantastic! The sooner the XJ drops into my price band the better! I think it is the most gorgeous saloon on the market bar none.

Would have been better if they'd designed something you liked immediately though!

Likewise, love the XK, the XF and the CX16 but I struggle with the new XJ. I still prefer the X350, and by a lot. Maybe I just haven't got it yet. Yes the drive is great, the interior is superb, the driving position is wonderful, but externally, I just think that Callum, for once, has lost it. Dramatic front end, but none of the 'stance' that he likes. It straggles, like the Merc CLS. It looks too narrow. The heaviness doesn't suggest power, the way it does on an XF. The tail looks as if it came off another vehicle.

I don't fancy one no matter how low the prices drop, and for me and Jag, that is a first.

Interesting...Thanks for the little insight there. I remember when they went all out promoting these, just amazes me that they're so accessible pricewise.

Still, this can only bode well.

Most of them are ex-demo. They put a load out at launch with top specs and allowed people to have long drives. Nice car but the quality is still veneer deep just like the XF and the LCD display for the dials is really tacky and the navigation looks dated already. Shame because visually and design wise they look great. Tight headroom in the back though and no soft closing doors limits their use in the chauffeur market

Yes, the old XJ was the chauffeur's car par excellence, as well as a lovely big sports saloon. I don't know how, but I think that on the new XJ they have fluffed it.

[queue Jaguar fan in fighting mode :-]
The X350 might have made a great chauffeur's car, but it lacked the grace of the X300/308.

Jaguars should be svelte

Whoever the chap sitting in the passenger seat was, he was wearing a very nice suit, with a a nice blue/white pinstripe shirt ( Turnbull and Asser ? ) with a nice watch and gold cufflinks, as he had his left hand up to his face. It looked " WESTMINSTER " to a T !
And all paid for by you, dear reader.

It's people like him who got us into this fine mess.

Quite possibly, my friend ... but I'd still prefer his particular mess, to that of say, Gaddafi eg ?
Yes, remarkable to think he could have all that oil and still cock it up.

It could be even worse, and we at least, can still make a nice car.

That's because no one in this country wants to invest anything in making things any more.

We'd all rather sit around make documentaries about each other.

Tempting indeed, but how many people would be brave enough to run one of these without an extended warranty? The prices of this size of car just keep dropping and take a long time to plateau.(I've been looking at BMW 7 Series). You may buy it at a bargain price as a two or three year old , but it is just going to keep on deteriorating at a colossal rate for several more year.

Still, food for thought.

I've been thinking of swapping my Vogue for the last week or so and have been offered the loan of an XJ for a couple of days next week.

I didn't like the looks at first but it has sort of grown on me.

With three teenagers, I want something with three decent rear seats and most cars seem to have a smaller middle seat.

I'm hoping the XJ will be right for them.

I have to admit that finding something to replace the luxury and seating position of the RR is going to be difficult.

Bugger!

Really nice car and drive but felt a bit detached when driving and no feed back from the road.

The middle rear seat is just too uncomfotable and the leg room there too small for my teenagers.

So it's a no for me sadly.....

In that type of car and at that price level with your requirements I don't think you will find anything that suits you. The Jag is more engaging than an S-class, 7, A6 and LS so unless you are going to look at a QP then I can't think what you would buy to meet those requirements
