This seems like good value, is it?

The dealer says he has a receipt for an engine re-build costing £4,000 done at 54,000 miles and has asked the previous owner who has said this was the Kit Seal service that Jaguar had the problem with and it has been done.
That was the Nikasil thing right?
Apparently there is no sign of any tensioner changes been done in the document file - this bothers me.
What other things need to be asked and checked?

Firstly, that's an XKR 
If no evidence of tensioners then budget to get them done - up to £500.
An engine rebuild isn't the same as swapping the block out for a metal lined one, so worth investigating. Having said that, if it does turn out to be Nikasil, just get a blow-by test done to see how much wear there is.

Thats a cheap car and even if it needs all the weak points sorting out, its still good value.
Footwell underside plates will prob need replacing (£300)
Tensioners if they havnt been done £1000 at an indy or £500 parts for DIY
Rear arches, worst case will need tidying up, including section behind back wheels on the rear wing (£500)
Interior may be showing wear
check the body & brackets behind the rear bumper for rust
check the dials all work, battery reads 13 when running
If you had all that done you'd have a bullet proof car for 8k which would be good for years to come.
Mine is very similar, ive done all these jobs & I paid alot more than 6.5k for it in the first place
